The Director, Human Resources Business Partner will be responsible for leading the design and implementation of talent programs as well as consulting on key initiatives and organizational changes across Canadian Operations. The position reports to the AVP, Human Resources Business Partner.
What will you do?
As Director, HR Business partner, you will partner closely with business leaders to build and maintain a thorough understanding of our overall Operations strategy as well as the business unit strategy to inform what talent initiatives are necessary to drive business success. You work with the business to develop talent requirements/initiatives to support and evolve the function’s operating model, talent and culture. You understand and deliver on all HR cycles and business initiatives while providing an exceptional employee and manager experience.
The role will focus on fostering a diverse, inclusive, respectful, high performing and empowered organization by working with the HR Centers of Expertise (CoEs) along with the various leaders within Canadian Operations to ensure all HR practices and programs are in place and well understood. The work of this role and the HR Business Partner team varies from supporting the implementation of established CoE programs to defining and partnering with the COE's to deliver HR solutions to address business opportunities that enable strategy execution.
Main Accountabilities:
- Partner, advise and coach leaders to diagnose, consult and problem solve on talent situations and challenges to maximize the effectiveness of their teams to be able to deliver on our strategy.
- Effectively partner with CoEs (Employment Practices, Recruitment, Compensation, Talent Acquisition, etc.) to design and implement talent initiatives to achieve business outcomes and optimize the employee experience
- Project manage organizational change and talent programs and initiatives within Canadian Operations.
- identify and validate talent gaps in the business through data and root cause analysis to build business cases demonstrating costs and ROI’s of talent recommendations.
- Provides proactive advice using data, insights, and analytics to inform business and talent decision making.
- Create and execute change management plans to socialize, educate on HR initiatives, policies and procedures for employees and managers in collaboration with COE partners.
- Respond to manager inquiries on a day-to-day basis by understanding the context of the situation, advising as necessary, and coaching managers to sustain change.
- Lead and manage the annual talent cycles (Performance, Talent Review, Compensation, etc.) for your client groups.
- Builds knowledge of HR and industry trends to advance employee capability, develop and attract talent for the future.
- Be a SME and a trusted advisor for client groups on talent policies, cycles and initiatives.
What do you need to succeed?
- Undergraduate degree and/or a combination of 10+ years of relevant, progressive work experience.
- Ability to work strategically with leaders, yet still manage the operational day-to-day.
- Applies understanding of business to build viable and practical solutions.
- A continuous improvement mindset, showing proactivity to create best practices to work more effectively.
- Broad understanding of all HR disciplines and HR program practices and connection to employee outcomes.
- Strong consulting, critical thinking, and analytical capabilities.
- Ability to lead a program with multiple projects and complex deliverables.
- Confidence interacting with senior leaders, and when needed, being comfortable challenging their thinking.
- Confidence in communicating, influencing, and coaching employees and people leaders.
- Strong systems thinking and the ability to identify solutions and associated impacts.
- Strong impact and influence skills, with the ability to flex to different communication styles.
- Demonstrated ability to execute quickly, effectively, and consistently.
- Superior collaborative working abilities and experience.
- Action oriented, with the ability to manage and drive through ambiguity as needed.
- Analytical and curious mindset on use of technology and data to advance the HR function and employee experience.
- Experience with transformation, project management, agile methodology and change management would be an asset.
As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.
The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
