Job Description:
Retail Advice and Solutions (RA&S) is expanding its Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) regulated investment dealer to create a Sun Life Canada Securities Inc. In support of this expansion and to help launch this dealer, RA&S is looking for a motivated thought leader who will perform the role of Digital Product Owner who will partner with business partners to identify and define technical capabilities required to support the launch and sustainability of the new dealer.

For a journey this exciting and complex, we are looking for a proven Digital Product Owner with Wealth Management experience who can help lead and deliver exceptional business outcomes for Sun Life Canada Securities Inc Canada Inc (SLCSI).
As part of the Retail Wealth Platform team, the Digital Product Owner is responsible for maximizing the value of the product. The role requires a capable decision maker who works closely with business stakeholders, governance and control partners and various technology and delivery teams to develop innovative, advisor and client-focused digital solutions to meet business needs. The person who fills this role will need to be resilient, adapt well to change and effective in communicating business objectives and desired outcomes, and be able to drive business value.
What will you do?
- Develop and maintain a product roadmap aligning to overall strategic vision.
- Create, prioritize, and manage a Product Backlog to maximize business value, maintaining an adequate backlog of user stories to sustain persistent agile team’s delivery capability.
- Communicate business, client/advisor and end user goals, decisions, and priorities.
- Develop user stories, define acceptance criteria and be available to the agile delivery team to provide clarity whenever required.
- Sync with other Product Owners when needed from an overall product, company, or advisor/client perspective to ensure there is consistency across products and product releases.
- Be an agile change agent; support organizational change management, when required.
- During Sprint Execution, the Product Owner will be involved in:
- Sprint Planning preparation
- Participating in daily Scrum meetings
- Prioritizing the team’s backlog. Includes balancing new features, enablers, defect fixes, dependencies, and removing technical debt.
- Backlog grooming and refinement
- Articulate and validate the Definition of Done, the Definition of Release and validate/provide acceptance on user stories once they are completed.
- Providing acceptance when user stories are completed.
- Participate in business validation of product releases.
- Lead Sprint Demo/Review sessions and participate in Retrospective ceremonies.
- Assess risks, impacts, and manage dependencies across delivery teams.
What do you need to succeed?
- Knowledge of the retail wealth distribution space or related wealth management experience
- Demonstrate knowledge of technology or ability to learn about technology and digital products.
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively, develop solid relationships, manage differences, and influence change.
- Be a capable decision maker and influencer that can drive decisions with executives, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to collaborate with and make decisions with the agile team’s technical lead, with support from the Platform leadership team, when needed.
- Ability to assess an audience to shape communications and clearly articulate thoughts and ideas.
- Ability to manage and lead the team to push solutions forward.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity be flexible and adaptive to change.
- Ability to work independently and exercise judgement.
- Empower others to fail, learn and grow.
What will be nice to have?
- Certified Product Owner (or training to be provided).
- 5+ years in financial services industry.
- Experience with agile delivery or experience working on technology projects.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
