The Business Portfolio Manager role is responsible for supporting the Director, Business Portfolio Management with portfolio management activities and overall consulting support. The individual will help identify and allocate expenses, provide visibility into the current status of work across the portfolio, and support with annual and quarterly financial and strategic planning activities. They will also complete consultant activities such as identifying, gathering, and documenting business needs and requirements

What will you do?

  • Support the Director, Business Portfolio Management with ongoing activities such as financial reporting, annual forecasting, strategic planning, and ceremony/meeting execution.
    • Analyze expense trends and identify variances from budget/expectations.
    • Collaborate with Finance partners to support and promote process integration
  • Work with Journey and Platform owners to maintain and update portfolio roadmaps, help prioritize deliverables and manage backlogs
  • Support business and strategic planning activities and assist with the overall management of the Key Initiative portfolio.
  • Help define and execution on a vision to bring greater transparency to BPM flow of work, whether via dashboards, improved processes, or roll-out of key corporate initiatives.
  • Fulfil consultant role on projects, supporting Stakeholders, Project Managers or Squads as required to identify and assess business impacts and risks, provide recommendations on options, and help define end state of desired changes
  • Engage business partners and SMEs to identify and document business needs and requirements, particularly for intake artifacts for new work and large-scale initiatives.
  • Provide technical knowledge and expertise into the overall portfolio finances.

What do you need to succeed?

  • 5+ years of experience in business portfolio management, with knowledge of investments and financial services.
  • Strong financial analysis skills, including proficiency in Excel and model development, backed by a relevant university degree or diploma.
  • Experience working in scaled agile environments and matrixed organizational structures, with the ability to adapt to multi-layer operating models.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with proven ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with a process-oriented mindset and the ability to gather business requirements, develop solutions, and create comprehensive business cases.
  • Self-motivated professional with a passion for continuous improvement, adaptability to learn new technologies, and the ability to manage priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Unique Requirements:

  • Some project work may be required outside of regular office hours to support critical timelines and/or critical deliverables
  • Some travel may be required (between Montreal, Toronto and Waterloo)

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
