Position Purpose:

Act as the primary EHS contact and subject matter expert (SME) for Stericycle Operations related to compliance with the company’s EHS Programs and Policies. The role is pivotal to mitigating Stericycle’s exposure to risk by leading, planning, coordinating, and implementing the company’s EHS management systems in their respective geographical areas. This requires the application of EHS engineering principles, such as job safety analyses, task-based evaluations, EHS Management systems technology and root cause analysis to prevent or correct unsafe working conditions and regulatory compliance issues. The overarching goal is for tactical EHS professionals to prevent and correct unsafe working conditions and behaviors as well as those that may impact our regulatory compliance.

Key Job Activities:
  • Support Districts in rolling out Safety Programs. Ensure programs are received and locations know how to implement them. Provide guidance and track implementation
  • Support Training Program Delivery – provide materials and validate on-time delivery. Ensure that all locations have access to the training programs and the training calendar and support them in delivering the training in accordance with the schedule.
  • Put together Prevention activities and campaigns to support safety efforts or to address a particular situation
  • Ensure incident information, including investigation, corrective actions and days away from work, entered in SEMS is complete and accurate. Follow up/visit the site to ensure that the quality of the investigation is sufficient and that the corrective actions most appropriate for the situation have been identified
  • Monitor the implementation of Safety Corrective Actions. Ensure all identified corrective actions are actually being put in place and that they are effective.
  • Track Monthly Safety Inspections and Safety Improvement Committee meetings and ensure all are done on time and completely. Identify any significant issues for follow up
  • Perform Quarterly Safety and Permit Compliance Inspections in accordance with pre-established schedule. Work with District and Permit Compliance teams to address any issued identified
  • Support District with Safety related questions (expertise), training delivery, safety meetings
  • Conduct JHA as required – especially when new equipment or processes are being implemented
  • Leads the Corporate Fleet Safety and Security teams with all related matters affecting the Canadian operations and monitor compliance with Corporate policies and programs
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities, as assigned

Requested skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Health and Safety related programs or the equivalent in related work experience
  • 7+ years of experience in safety field. 
  • Bilingual English/French is required
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) Certification is desirable
