What you will be responsible for
As a Fund Tax services AVP you will:
- Calculates and reviews distributions (monthly, quarterly and year-end)
- Participates in special project such as funds merger distribution
- Review income estimates when needed for distribution purposes
- Review trust income tax returns and related working papers
- Research various tax issues and prepare memos
- Review year-end tax reporting slips for submission to CRA and unit holders
- Review stop loss and suspended loss reports and determine the final numbers in distribution
- Prepare year end customized client tax reporting
- Liaise with clients on various reporting deadlines
- Review CRA Notice of Assessments and determine response on Notice of Objection, T3 Adjustment and guide staff to prepare documents
- Prepare GST/HST Tax returns
- Follows up on news release on new or revised tax treaties between Canada and foreign countries
- LP products - involvement in gathering tax information from companies held in the portfolio, coordinate/liaise with Financial Reporting Analyst in computation of partnership income, communication of tax slip information to brokers and via CDS website
- Tax returns for Mutual Fund Corporation
- Reconciliation of various tax slip filings with CRA (e.g. T5s, T3s, T5008 etc.)
- Monitor tax legislation to ensure compliance
- Recommendations for improvements to tax reporting process and involvement in their implementation
- Take initiative in First Line of Defense in Risk Management
- Evaluates staffing needs while continually striving for greater efficiencies.
- Develop internal training classes with the training liaison.
- Completes other special projects or tasks assigned.
- Plays a key role in staff management.
What we value
- A professional accounting designation (CPA, CMA or CGA with TX2)
- An excellent accounting and tax background with minimum 7 plus years of experience in the public practice or financial service industry
- In-depth Income tax from CPA Institute is must
- Experience managing a team of professional tax accountants
- Additional experience related to exposure to complex tax issues surrounding the mutual fund industry
- Advanced computer skills (including Word, Excel and Taxprep and Formulatrix)
- Ability to research online with CCH tools
- Excellent communication skills that allows effective communication within the team and with the client
- Additional experience related to complex tax issues surrounding the mutual fund industry
- Sound knowledge of reorganization provisions of the Income Tax Act
- Familiar with FAPI Rules
- Familiar with Non-Resident Trust Rules

Salary Range:
$91,000 - $140,500 AnnualThe range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
