POSITION DESCRIPTION
SENIOR SCHOOL - TEACHER LIBRARIAN (TEMPORARY - FULL-TIME)
We are currently inviting applications for the position of Senior School Teacher Librarian. This is a temporary full-time position and will commence September 1, 2026 thru to June 30, 2027.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The primary responsibility of the Senior School Teacher librarian is to provide support in literacy
and research skill acquisition for students from Grade 8 12. Building relationships with students and faculty is also a central component of this position. This position is responsible for:
- Library programs, services and staff, including volunteers, to support the educational Program
- Library budget to support the curriculum
- Quantitative measurements of circulation
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Curriculum Design and Resource Curation
Plan research assignments with subject teachers
Facilitate and model the implementation of the Harkness philosophy and other instructional strategies that support the SSEP
Co-teach classes to research with academic integrity using books, eBooks, databases, and websites
Co-teach classes to assess the reliability and credibility of resources
Co-teach classes to cite and list sources in a recognized format (APA, MLA, Chicago) Support the marking of research portions of some assignments, where applicable
Evaluate learning resources in different formats and media, both on site and remote, to support the instructional program
Support maintenance of the online access points including catalogue, library website, Databases
Develop literacy skills with subject teachers and Learning Strategies teachers:
Foster the habit of life-long reading by providing fiction and non-fiction of interest to all grade levels and all interests
Foster the student s ability to find appropriate resources and leveled books
Encourage students to follow their interests and to read and learn beyond the requirements of the curriculum providing reading advisory support to staff, students and extended community in choosing their books
Knowing the specific interests and reading levels of individual students in the school in order to match them with the right book in the library collection
Promote a love of literacy through a variety of literacy initiatives, promotions, clubs, special events and presentations
Collaborate with the Educational Technology Leader to provide leadership in the area of digital literacy to students and faculty
Additional Responsibilities:
Participate in the co-curricular program of the school
Supervise and manage student deportment, including behaviour and adherence to
uniform expectations
Coordinates the Advanced Placement program
Attend and participate in core school functions and special events
Additional duties and responsibilities as outlined in the Employee Handbook
This position includes a modest teaching load and will monitors students academic, co-curricular, and personal growth as an advisor
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE:
- Bachelor of Education coupled with a Teacher Librarian Certificate
- Valid BC teaching certificate or independent school teaching certificate
- Experience teaching in a technology rich environment is an asset
- Co-curricular coaching experience is valued
- Highly collegial and a collaborative team partner
- Experience teaching at the Senior School level in an independent school environment Effective interpersonal skills to establish connections with students and parents in the role of advisor

Southridge is excited to offer a competitive salary, with a pay scale the exceeds the Vancouver School District by 4%. Along with this, we have a comprehensive benefits package and a generous RRSP matching program, access to health and wellness activities including generous support for professional learning and development. The salary range for this position is from $71,213. to $116,179. Salary placement is based on years of teaching experience and educational accomplishments.
