Intermediate AWS Aurora/Postgres Database Specialist with expertise will set up, maintain and monitor Aurora/Postgres database or other database system

Must Haves:


  • 5+ years of experience in managing and maintain Aurora/Postgres databases on AWS
  • 5+ years of experience implementing and managing backups, restoration, replications, and snapshots
  • 10+ years hands of experience with SQL Server and/or Azure Synapse database administration
  • Hands-on experience with database troubleshooting


Resource Responsibilities

1. Ensure smooth and continuous operation of new and existing database performance and availability of the WSIB’s database systems through:

  • Manage and maintain Aurora/Postgres databases on AWS.
  • Optimize database performance through configuration tuning, index optimization, and query optimization.
  • Implement and manage database backups, replication, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Monitor database health and performance metrics, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to design and implement database solutions that meet performance and scalability requirements.
  • Stay updated on AWS database technologies and best practices, recommending and implementing improvements as necessary.
  • Automate repetitive tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Provide technical guidance and support junior members of the team.

2. Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; review with appropriate management staff and implement improvements; work with ITC and business users to maintain, revise or improve the overall reliability, availability and serviceability of the database systems and IT operations by:

  • Monitoring, considering risk and tuning databases to ensure optimal function in order to maintain the highest degree of database performance.
  • Reviewing, analyzing, and documenting logs, charts, diagrams and data to advise on and recommend application or system improvements.
  • Investigating cost saving opportunities, conducting research to refine, tune, modify and adjust different database technology products.
  • Assessing current database architecture setup and developing strategies to optimize database capacity and performance.

3. Create and maintain libraries of all database documentation for past and current projects. This includes database standards, policies and Problem Log Knowledge base with detailed problem description, resolution and root cause for incident tickets and service requests, user procedures manuals, technical references, standards and guides.

4. Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
