Rocky Mountain International Student Program (RMISP)
Full-Time Homestay Manager
Reporting to the Director, International Education, a key function of the Homestay Manager is to promote homestay and the value of the International Student Program, and provide effective leadership for a team of Homestay Coordinators.
Core Responsibilities Include:
- In collaboration with the Director, International Education, and Program Manager, develop and implement homestay processes and guidelines to reduce and mitigate risk;
- Train and manage a virtual and in-person team of Homestay Coordinators, including hiring and performance management;
- Support and mentor homestay coordinators through regular communication, training and professional development opportunities;
- Guide and collaborate with Homestay Coordinators in:
- Promoting the homestay program within the community;
- Recruiting host families for short-term and long-term placements;
- Screening host families and maintaining documentation including homestay applications, family profiles, criminal record checks, reference checks and home visits;
- Matching students with suitable host families based on their individual needs and preferences;
- Providing ongoing support to students and host families.
- Develop well-considered plans and campaigns to improve homestay capacity in each community through innovative recruitment and retention activities.
- Assist in problem-solving student and homestay related issues, and guide students and families in emergent or crisis situations.
- Communicate directly with international students' agencies, natural parents, and/or host families regarding issues that develop.
- Manage ongoing evaluation of homestays to ensure they are meeting program standards and students' needs/expectations. Report regularly to the Director regarding capacity and individual homestay concerns.
- Work collaboratively with the International Education Administrative Assistant in reviewing and confirming financial transactions for the homestay program.
- Monitor student attendance, student trips and travel documentation, and assist with medical insurance claims/plans, as necessary.
- Manage program airport logistics, assists with, and attends student trips and activities.
- Orientate new international students and host families to the expectations of the Homestay Program.
- Organize and deliver ongoing homestay networking and support seminars.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, International Education.
- On a rotational basis, monitor and respond to the 24-hour emergency phone line
Salary Range: $81,830-$102,287 commensurate with experience.
Qualifications:
Outstanding leaders who wish to be considered for this position must have completed a minimum 2 years of relevant post-secondary training. A diploma or degree with an emphasis in international business, education, counseling, conflict resolution, intercultural communication or a related field is preferred.
Applicants must also demonstrate the following requirements:
- 3+ years direct experience working in a homestay program or related intercultural environment in community organizations or educational setting
- A proven record of building and maintaining positive working relationships with students, parents, employee groups and the broader community
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience
- Proven examples of a collaborative, consensus-seeking leadership style
- Highly effective and respectful interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills
- Effective leadership during critical incidents and other stressful situations
- Strong detail-orientation, administrative, organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent written and public speaking skills
- Experience using database programs, and other administrative software
- Familiarity with the BC K-12 International Student Homestay Guidelines and BC K-12 education system
- A valid BC Driver's license and vehicle
- Ability to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends as required
