Rocky Mountain School District #6 is now accepting applications for Casual Lunch Program Aides in the Golden Zone.



The Lunch Program Aide works independently and is responsible for the smooth operation of the school lunch program including the provision of service for the nutritional break. Capable of working well with, and organizing the activities of both student and adult assistants. Work is performed under the supervision of the Principal.



Examples of Work

  • Design and implement weekly menus, for lunches and nutritional breaks, following the B.C. Healthy Foods Guidelines for School, and work with the school schedule.
  • Make arrangements with participating businesses for the ordering of catered food. Maintain records of service provided and makes appropriate recommendations to the Principal or designate as part of an ongoing evaluation process.
  • Order all foods for and oversee the running of the breakfast and nutritional break programs, if applicable.
  • Order all goods for lunch program and provides distribution of catered foods. If space is allocated in the future, will provide on-site lunch preparation.
  • Manage cash and supervise students and volunteers doing cash.
  • Organize, supervise and train students and volunteers who assist in the food program, to build skills in the food services industry.
  • Be responsible for daily clean up with respect for the district's environment-friendly practices (e.g. recycling, use of biodegradable materials, etc.)
  • Work as a member of a school team with staff, students, parent volunteers and students assigned to the program for work experience credit, if applicable.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Experience in commercial food preparation and previous business experience would be assets.
  • Possess working knowledge of nutrition and safe food preparation with a high standard of personal hygiene and stamina.
  • Must be well organized and able to a) plan the weekly menus and b) provide evaluation of the program's effectiveness to the committee.
  • Must possess a current Food Safe certification. Recertification required every five years.
  • Able to create healthy menu options that appeal to the student population, and provide good nutritional value and ongoing variety.
  • Able to calculate cost per serving, and plan and budget for appropriate profit margins.



Required Training, Experience and Certification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Understanding and knowledge of basic book-keeping.
  • Training and/or experience in Food Industry.
  • Holds current Food Safe Certificate.
  • First Aid Certificate.



Rate of Pay

$28.31/hr, as per the Collective Agreement 440
