Operations Labourer
Reports to: Zone Coordinator - Grounds, Zone Coordinator - Mechanical, Zone Coordinator - Electrical and the Senior Warehouser
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Zone Coordinator - Grounds, Zone Coordinator - Mechanical, Zone Coordinator - Electrical and the Senior Warehouser, this position will assist in the maintenance and improvements of School District facilities, equipment, systems, and sites. This position may be required to start work at various School District locations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists in the delivery of both preventative and routine maintenance of facilities, equipment, systems, and sites.
- Operates, inspects, and performs minor maintenance of power tools, hand tools, and small powered landscaping equipment.
- Operates equipment including but not limited to:
- Lawn mowers,
- Tractors,
- Sweepers,
- Small dump trucks.
- Cuts grass, prunes trees, plants shrubs, weeds, rakes, and fertilize as directed.
- Loads and unloads vehicles. Sorts, stacks and transports furnishings, equipment, power tools, and materials.
- Empties garbage bins and cleans sidewalks.
- Hauls materials, equipment, and debris.
- Inspects vehicles and/or trailers, secures chains and hitches.
- Inspects, cleans, and clears sites and work areas of debris.
- Provides snow removal and ice control at District sites on a seasonal basis.
- Maintain accurate records and inventories including logbooks.
Applicants must have:
- Completed Grade 12.
- Two (2) years' combined experience in maintenance and landscape work including:
- Knowledge and experience utilizing power tools, hand tools, and small powered landscaping equipment.
- Knowledge and experience in the operation of lawn mowers, tractors, sweepers, and small dump trucks.
- Labourer knowledge and experience supporting trades people.
- Demonstrate current knowledge and experience with B.C. construction and maintenance safety requirements including WCB Regulation relating to the trades industry.
- Valid Class 5 Drivers license with Airbrake Endorsement.
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate.
- In good physical condition and health to perform the required duties of this position in a safe and efficient manner.
- Able to work with minimum supervision.
- Able to work alone and within a team environment.
- An initiative-taker.
- Analyse, interpret and use judgement in the resolution of problems.
- Read and interpret drawings and blueprints.
- Maintain good interpersonal skills.
- Exhibit basic computer skills utilizing Microsoft applications such as: Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel.
- Complete all required Health & Safety training.
- Maintain a current forklift certification (where required by management).
- Education in recognized trade school.
- First Aid Level 1 or 2 certificate.
