Central Okanagan Public Schools is located in the Central Okanagan encompassing the communities of Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, and Lake Country. There are a total of 51 school sites with 33 Elementary Schools, 8 Middle schools, 5 Secondary Schools, 3 Learning Centres, an Alternate Education School, and an Online Learning School (K-12). We invite applications for the temporary position of:

Accounts Clerk - School (KSS)

This position performs bookkeeping/accounting duties including receiving and receipting money, maintaining records of all school financial transactions, including petty cash, preparing bank reconciliation statements, and other clerical duties as assigned.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • monitor school/district accounts for accuracy and variances;
  • maintain records of all school financial transactions;
  • prepare bank reconciliation;
  • maintain and reconcile petty cash fund;
  • receive and receipt monies and prepare bank deposits;
  • prepare financial and other reports;
  • research suppliers, obtain prices and prepare requisitions and purchase orders and receive and verify invoices and the delivery of goods;
  • maintain and monitor the school supplies and equipment inventories;
  • maintain a variety of files and records.
  • communicate with staff, students and others and respond to inquiries and provide general information.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • completed Grade 12 (Senior Secondary School Graduation), including commercial courses applicable to the position (bookkeeping/ accounting);
  • knowledge and experience with word processing skills - Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Adobe) as well as SharePoint/Outlook;
  • six (6) months' secretarial training (Office Administration Program) at a Community College;
  • one (1) year previous related accounting/bookkeeping experience;
  • knowledge and experience with accounting programs;
  • a net typing speed of fifty (50) words per minute.

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • maintain a high quality of work including accuracy and dependability;
  • possess good organizational skills;
  • maintain excellent interpersonal skills;
  • successfully complete the District Bookkeeping course;
  • complete MyEd BC-Level 1 &2 training;
  • complete the required District's Health and Safety training.

This is a temporary full-time position beginning as soon as possible and continuing until July 9, 2027 working 35 hours per week at a wage rate of $28.81 per hour, plus eligibility for overtime compensation.

In addition to the hourly wage, the position includes:

  • 5% of bi-weekly earnings in lieu of vacation, and
  • 5% of straight-time earnings per pay period in lieu of statutory holidays.

Upon successful completion of the probationary period and attainment of seniority, temporary employees working 17.5 hours or more per week will also receive:

  • 10% in lieu of benefits and paid leaves.
