Your role

  • Set expectations for team performance (good judgment in grey areas; common sense, customer service as “the face of Rona Canada,” data entry and transportation documentation accuracy, leadership, initiative, quick decision-making, team player, ask questions and reach out to peers in network, driven)

  • Train, mentor, and support Transportation Coordinators and Transportation team members; create training guides as needed

  • Act as back up to the Transportation Manager

  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures (cleanliness and orderliness, trailer integrity, load quality, job safety analysis to identify risks)

  • Work as the Rona's Canada regional subject matter expert for all matters dealing with transportation initiatives or questions as required

  • Assist in hiring employees capable of working in a team and multitasking in a fast-paced environment

  • Cost recognition and containment: Monitor overall freight costs for the RDC and adjust where appropriate; identify transportation savings by researching lane and cost savings; work with operations to maximize cube per trailer to reduce transportation costs

  • Ensure on-time and efficient service to stores (includes follow up action plan for errors made)

  • Ensure outbound loads are being picked up and delivered in timely fashion (includes follow-up as needed)

  • Provide ongoing support to the Operations and Planning teams (yard management, trailer moves, and cube utilization efficiencies)

  • Plan delivery and pickup routes using a TMS for Western Canada

  • Enhance TMS usage by contributing to the improvement of its quality and processes

  • Manage trailer overflow, manage add-ons and prioritize loading schedule

  • Maintain the delivery schedules in the system

The qualifications we are looking for

  • College education in Transportation or Supply Chain Management (preferred)

  • Experience in transportation and/or supply chain at the supervisor level

  • Oral and written communication skills

  • Proven record for complying with safety requirements and ability to build a culture of safety among subordinates and peers

  • Capacity to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment

  • Self-confidence and decision-making abilities

  • Familiarity with Ministry of Transportation (MTO) regulations

  • Demonstrated flexibility; ability to readily adapt to change and see change as an opportunity

  • Capacity to use analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex problems; creative problem-solving skills; initiative

  • Demonstrated team-building skills - strong ability to build rapport and trust with others

  • Ability to resolve conflicts quickly and fairly

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experience with spreadsheets, analysis, and the efficient use of database programs efficiently

  • Understanding of various costing/pricing models

  • Experience with Transportation Management Systems (an important asset)

  • Good logistical problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge of Canadian geography
