Our Expectations

Reporting to the Manager of Planning & Optimization and working in partnership with various departments within the Store Support Center, the Short-Term Operations Planner is responsible for planning, coordinating, and optimizing daily distribution operations for one assigned region of Canada (East, Central, or West). This person works closely with the distribution, transportation, and supply chain teams to ensure seamless daily execution and to support continuous improvement initiatives.

The primary objective is to support operational KPI achievement, maximize day-to-day efficiency, and contribute to regional operational excellence. The planner analyzes operational needs, prioritizes tasks, coordinates resources, and acts as the regional communication hub for daily activities.

This role covers distribution centers and direct delivery centers within the assigned region. The planner supports distribution center general managers, transportation teams, and supply chain teams by ensuring consistent and proactive short-term execution planning.

The selected candidate must understand risks related to short-term capacity, operational constraints, and performance measurement tools and must recommend adjustments and contribute to KPI improvement.

The Role

• Daily Operational Planning

  • Build and maintain daily operational plans for the assigned region (East, Central, or West).
  • Prioritize daily activities based on volumes, available resources, and operational needs.
  • Adjust plans in real time to address issues such as operational delays or constraints.
  • Ensure clear communication of daily priorities to regional operational teams.

• Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Collaborate daily with distribution, transportation, and supply chain teams to ensure aligned execution.
  • Support transport scheduling by validating dock availability, workload distribution, and timing constraints.
  • Align inventory availability with daily operational needs by working with inventory management teams.
  • Serve as a regional point of contact to resolve daily operational issues quickly.

• Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor daily operational performance indicators (productivity, shipping, receiving, service levels, etc.).
  • Analyze performance gaps and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and reduce operational delays.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of KPI frameworks by providing insights, observations, and recommendations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives alongside the teams responsible.

• Capacity & Resource Management

  • Assess daily capacity needs (space, labor, equipment) to ensure efficient operations.
  • Recommend adjustments to workload allocation, activity sequencing, or space utilization.
  • Collaborate with distribution center managers to maximize regional productivity.

• Reporting & Communication

  • Prepare and distribute daily and weekly operational reports for the assigned region.
  • Present key findings, challenges, and recommendations to internal stakeholders.
  • Create ad hoc reports to support operational decision-making.

Skills We Are Looking For

  • 2 to 4 years of experience in logistics, operations, or short-term operational planning.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or Business, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of planning and analytical tools (Power BI, advanced Excel, operational planning systems).
  • Programming or analytical skills (Python, R, SQL) - an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong customer-service focus (stores and internal partners).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
