Reporting to the General Counsel, this position will provide business oriented and practical legal support on general corporate/commercial, corporate governance, acquisition, regulatory compliance, marketing/advertising, licensing and intellectual property matters. He/she will support continuing growth initiatives by working with Reliance’s various functional business units, as well as assist in managing general legal compliance at Reliance. The position will also provide occasional support regarding litigation and liability claims matters.

What will you do?
- Provide practical, thoughtful and responsive corporate/commercial legal support as required by reviewing, negotiating and approving:
- vendor contracts and leases
- customer contracts for new and existing products/services
- advertising and marketing initiatives
- Assist in maintaining Reliance’s corporate structure and provide corporate governance support
- Provide General Counsel and senior management with legal support on acquisition activity
- Responsibility for managing and protecting Reliance’s trademarks and other intellectual property
- Monitor and update legal compliance, training and risk mitigation initiatives for Reliance’s functional business units
- Co-ordinate the use of outside legal counsel where applicable
- Respond to other legal issues from various areas of the business areas as needed and provide value-added input in business decisions
- Monitor legal and regulatory environment for potential risks that may be detrimental to the business
What do you bring?
- Postsecondary education - LL.B / J.D. designation from an accredited Canadian law school (Certificate of Standing (preferred) and equivalent work experience
- Minimum 2 to 3 years of relevant experience gained from a major law firm and/or in-house law department with a focus on corporate/commercial, marketing/advertising, M&A, real estate leasing and governance/compliance experience
- Relationship builder; strong ability to develop new and effective relationships with internal business areas and external contacts
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Detail oriented and results focused
- Preference will be shown to those with experience with consumer protection and competition law compliance
- Must have access to reliable transportation and maintain a valid driver’s license as the position will require some travel (mainly within Ontario and occasionally within North America).
