Job SummaryJob DescriptionWhat is the opportunity?RBC is seeking an expert engineer for our Finance and Audit Technology group. You will be heavily involved in shaping the future technology landscape of RBC by playing a crucial role in our site reliability transformation initiative. Working closely with our engineering and operations teams to ensure top-notch performance, scalability, and reliability across our systems.A lead for the site reliability engineering (SRE) enablement squad, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and acceleration of application resiliency within our teams, with a particular focus on the design and development of an Operations architecture. Establishing governance to ensure alignment to architecture and strategy.You'll have deep knowledge and experience working in an application development or technology operations organization and a natural imperative to share what you've learned. You should be a strong communicator. Comfortable organising and delivering technical presentations and hands-on learning labs as you'll be a leading voice in our communities-of-practice.What you will do?Engineering:Establish an Operations architecture and associated governance processDrive transformation by continuously automating existing processes, enabling low friction, self-service SRE for product teamsTrack, audit, monitor, and implement technical work streams. Performing complex application programming activities, including coding, testing, debugging, documenting, maintaining, and modifying complex applications programsTechnical Consultation:Consult on SRE product build both within Finance Technology and The EnterpriseAnalyze features such as feasibility, associated costs, time, and the compatibility of new programs with existing programs, and hardwarePerform functional & non-functional requirements analysis of service reliable plans and assessmentsVerify applications meet SRE standards in production. Seek to deliver zero-downtime for supported applicationsEnsure that expected application performance levels are achieved. Establishing and exceeding service level objectives (SLO)Innovation and learning:Stay abreast of technology change and learn constantly, through official training assignments and self-assigned learningTeach and guide teams to increase overall SRE best practice awareness, collaborating with peers to establish an SRE Guild across Finance TechnologyDemonstrate new technology Proof-Of-Concepts to teams to rapidly increase SRE AdoptionSeen by peers & direct reports as the very best, setting the gold standardBold and innovative in driving change a broad thinker who takes decisive actionWhat you need to succeed?Must have:Extensive experience in software engineering, with a strong background in operations and/or system administration.Advanced knowledge of industry practices, with focus SRE & DevOpsAdvanced knowledge of at least 1 programming language (Go/Python/Java)Advanced experience in a variety of environments (Cloud, distributed and mainframe, business workflows and services/APIs, databases)Experience working with industry leading monitoring, alerting, logging, graphing, dashboarding tools (Dynatrace, Moogsoft, PagerDuty, Elastic, Splunk, DataDog, Grafana, Kibana)Proficiency in at least 1 each of Openshift/ Azure, Ansible/Kafka, Python/ Angular/ Typescript/ Java/ C#Nice to have:Demonstrated experience in implementing and leading SRE practices within an organizationActive involvement in the wider industry, such as contributions to open-source projects or industry groupsCapability to provide technical mentorship to incoming engineersExcellent communication skills, negotiation skills, stakeholder managementWhats in it for you?
