QUALIFICATIONS
* Grade 12 Education (MB Standards)
* Health Care Aide Certificate from a recognized program
* Unit Clerk Certificate from a recognized institution or equivalent, including Medical Terminology
* Previous related experience as a unit clerk and/or HCA in a hospital or personal care home setting an asset
* Other combinations of education and experience may be considered
* Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
* Demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to work independently
* Demonstrated communication skills
* Demonstrated flexibility to facilitate changes in techniques and procedures
* Ability to display independent judgment
* Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population
* Ability to respect and promote confidentiality
* Ability to perform the duties of the position on a regular basis


POSITION SUMMARY

The Unit Clerk / Health Care Aide maintains the organization and reception of the nursing desk to ensure communication and smooth workflow during the assigned shift.

The Unit Clerk / Health Care Aide provides direct client care and environmental support to the nursing unit.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Overview:

  1. Responsible for all clerical duties that are designed to support and maintain the day to day function of the Unit.
  2. Responsible for maintaining communication within the unit including answering telephone and redirecting calls to the appropriate staff, contacting switchboard, booking appointments, referrals, and consults, using the paging system, emails and fax.
  3. Assist with transporting of patients, equipment, supplies, charts, specimens.
  4. Responsible for cleaning and replenishing rooms and equipment, while adhering to safe handling practices and infection control policies.
  5. Responsible for ordering, delivering and distributing linen and supplies.
  6. Routine restock supplies.
  7. Assist with patient care throughout the episode of care, ensuring patient mobility, care, comfort and safety.
  8. Sundry duties as assigned.
