Description
* Post-secondary student, at least 16 years of age, legally entitled to work in Canada and intending to return to their studies in the fall
* Preference will be given to applicants entering, or already in a university program for one of the following professions: Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech Language Pathology
* Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
* Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
* Demonstrated ability in maintaining effective interpersonal working relationships required
* Demonstrated strong organizational, decision making and problem solving skills
* Ability to work independently and in a team environment
* Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
* Maintain a professional manner at all times
* Ability to prioritize in a changing environment

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Recreational Facilitator the Recreational Summer Student performs and provides activity to patients within the sites of Brandon Regional Health Centre. The Recreational Summer Student functions as an integral part of the health care system and performs all duties with the Mission, Vision, Values policies and procedures of Prairie Mountain Health.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with planning, organizing and coordinating recreational activities that will enhance the patients’ quality of life.
- Assist in coordinating, developing and implementing recreational program for patients considering all facets of the individuals’ psychosocial, spiritual, intellectual and physical needs.
- Assist in determining each patient’s past interests and hobbies in order to help the Recreation Facilitator develop programs for that individual.
- Assist in planning activities that are relevant to the season of the year and special current events, taking into consideration cultural and religious holidays that may be relevant to individual patients.
- Assist in scheduling activities at appropriate times, with consideration of each individual patient’s preferences and the provision of the patient’s physical care.
- Reports changes in the patient’s condition or in their participation to the Recreational Facilitator or Nurse in charge.
- Assist in providing a variety of activities that promote group interaction between patients.
- Completes sundry duties as assigned.
