QUALIFICATIONS
* Full-time high school or post-secondary student, at least 16 years of age, legally entitled to work in Canada and intending to return to their studies in the fall
* Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
* Demonstrated ability in maintaining effective interpersonal working relationships required
* Demonstrated strong organizational, decision making and problem solving skills
* Ability to work independently and in a team environment
* Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
* Maintain a professional manner at all times
* Ability to prioritize in a changing environment

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible to the Activity Supervisor for direction and supervision, the Summer Student, Activities, performs and provides activity services to clients within the sites of Prairie Mountain Health. In the absence of the Activity Supervisor the Activity Summer Student may provide day to day activity services. The Summer Student, Activities, functions as an integral part of the health care system and performs all duties with the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Prairie Mountain Health.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist with planning, organizing, and coordinating activities that will enhance the residents’ quality of life.
  2. Assist in coordinating, developing, implementing and evaluating an Activity Program for residents considering all facets of the individuals’ psychosocial, spiritual, intellectual and physical needs.
  3. Assist in performing an assessment on each resident to determine past interests and hobbies.
  4. Involve residents in planning activities to facilitate their participation in decision-making and determining a preference for activities.
  5. In collaboration with the Activity Supervisor, plans activity program schedules and circulates monthly calendars to residents, their families and members of the Health care team.
  6. Assist in planning activities that are relevant to the season of the year and special current events, taking into consideration cultural and religious holidays that may be relevant to individual residents.
  7. Assist in scheduling activities at appropriate times, with consideration of each individual resident’s preferences and the provision of the resident’s physical care.
  8. Assist with maintaining a file for each resident.
  9. Assist in monitoring an activity care plan for each resident.
  10. Assist in reviewing the individual activity care plan for each resident in response to changes in the resident’s condition and/or level of participation.
  11. Report changes in the resident’s condition or in their participation to the Activity Supervisor or nurse in charge.
  12. Assist in providing a variety of activities that promote group interaction between residents and/or individual attention as appropriate.
  13. Understand and act within the philosophy of palliative care.
  14. Assist in organizing and promoting fundraising events and teas to provide ongoing funding for special events and equipment.
  15. Completes sundry duties as assigned.
