QUALIFICATIONS
* The service area of this position includes Dauphin, St.Pauls, Ste.Rose and McCreary Health Facilities
* Baccalaureate Degree in Human Ecology, major in Human Nutritional Sciences or equivalent
* Completion of an accredited dietetic internship program
* Membership in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Manitoba
* Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
* Demonstrated leadership
* Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
* Ability to prioritize in a changing environment
* Strong organizational, decision making and problem solving skills
* Ability to display independent judgment
* Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population
* Ability to respect and promote confidentiality
* Ability to perform the duties of the position on a regular basis


POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Dietitian - Facility Based is responsible for providing nutritional care and counseling for patients, residents and clients; participates as a member of the health care and dietitian teams; provides nutrition care plan instruction to nutrition services staff; contributes to the development of programs, menus, policies and procedures, and educational materials as related to nutrition care; participates in the strategic planning process and continuous quality improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Overview:

In collaboration with the health care teams, including patients, residents, clients and/or next of kin; using current best practice evidence; and within standards of practice:

  1. Completes nutrition assessments.
  2. Develops, monitors and revises nutrition care plans.
  3. Provides nutrition education.
  4. Keeps records as per standards established by the region/program.
  5. Provides nutrition expertise for relevant program-specific procedures.
  6. Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings (e.g. Care Conferences, Clinical Rounds, and Discharge Planning).

    As a member of the Prairie Mountain Health Facility Based Clinical Dietitian team:
  7. Participates in team meetings, including development of the program action plan, and nutrition care-related policies and procedures.
  8. Participates in sub-committees, as required.
  9. Reports on relevant issues from clinical areas worked.
  10. Shares area of knowledge and expertise with team.
  11. Prepares statistical and status reports for the Area Manager.
  12. Sundry duties as assigned.
