QUALIFICATIONS
* It is anticipated this position will have a caseload in Long Term Care and Community
* Active practicing licensure to practice Occupational Therapy with the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba
* Current Basic Life Saving (BLS) Certification within the past 12 months as per Prairie Mountain Health Policy PPG-00002 CPR Training
* Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License, or equivalent from province of residence, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
* Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
* Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work independently
* Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills
* Demonstrated flexibility to facilitate changes in techniques and procedures in a changing environment
* Demonstrated knowledge and competence of skills and concepts related to the position

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Occupational Therapist (OT) performs all duties in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values, Strategic Priorities, policies and procedures of the Prairie Mountain Health (PMH). The OT provides leadership in the care of clients contributing in the assessment, planning, development, organization, implementation and evaluation of all aspects of care related to the profession of Occupational Therapy in accordance with the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics as set out for Occupational Therapists by the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba. The OT collaborates with the multidisciplinary team, clients, families and external agencies regarding the care needs for the client in the community, facility (acute care and personal care home) and home care settings. The OT acts as a mentor for OT students and for provisional OTs as per regulatory requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Overview:

  1. Organizes, prioritizes and assumes responsibility for assigned caseload
  2. Applies Occupational Therapy knowledge and skills to provide optimum individualized and evidence based assessment and treatment for clients assigned
  3. Collaborates with clients on the planning, implementation and progression of the treatment plan, providing education and counseling to the client and/or family member
  4. Delegates activities and tasks to Rehabilitation Aides as appropriate and in accordance with the treatment plan
  5. Utilizes evidence-based practice and techniques within the scope of Occupational Therapy in the treatment of clients
  6. Communicates, consults and collaborates with other health care professionals of the multidisciplinary team in the implementation of the treatment plan
  7. Documents in a timely manner as per PMH policy and relevant professional college guidelines
  8. Attends care conferences, discharge planning, multidisciplinary and team meetings as applicable
  9. Liaises, consults and exchanges verbal and/or written information with external agencies in accordance with relevant policy and legislation
  10. Supports and promotes health promotion and disease prevention and primary health care principles
  11. Completes required statistical reporting as required and within established timelines
  12. Collaborates through discussions with management to ensure continuity of services to optimize caseload coverage during periods of absence vacancy, whenever reasonably possible
  13. Provides clinical supervision of students or provisional OTs as per guidelines
  14. Works collaboratively with management in proposing, planning and participating in the implementation of services and/or therapy programming
  15. Duties may include the requirement to work after hours and weekends.
  16. Keeps up to date with the policies and procedures of the PMH
  17. Participates in performance review process and goal setting to enhance work performance
  18. Utilizes critical thinking skills to guide decision-making within scope of practice and position
  19. Reports pertinent information to the Therapy Services Management in a timely manner
  20. Other duties as assigned
