Journeyperson Plumber

QUALIFICATIONS
* High School Diploma or suitable combination of relevant education and experience related to the position.
* Journeyperson Plumber status as recognized by the Province of Manitoba.
* Journeyperson Gas Fitter with B status as recognized by the Province of Manitoba.
* Certified as a Back Flow Preventer, preferred.
* Minimum of four (4) years commercial experience as a Journeyperson Plumber
* Active employment as a Journeyperson Plumber within the last two (2) years
* Thorough knowledge of building and fire codes and related regulations applicable to health facilities in Manitoba.
* Ability to read and understand blue prints and schematic drawing required.
* Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health.
* Demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.

* Demonstrated flexibility to facilitate changes in techniques and procedures.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Journeyperson Plumber is responsible for maintaining the natural gas, medical gas, water and sewer systems etc. throughout the Prairie Mountain Health Region. Responsibilities include repair and maintenance to natural gas equipment and systems, medical gas equipment and systems, water and sewer systems, water treatment systems, steam systems, air systems, gas systems and their related equipment ensuring that all up keep, repair and installations are done according to Provincial Plumbing Codes and/or National Standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Overview:

1. Performs all required aspects of preventive maintenance.
2. Performs repairs and maintenance to natural gas equipment and systems.
3. Preforms repairs and maintenance to medical gas equipment and systems.
4. Installs and maintains installations such as water and sewer systems, water treatment, steam systems, air systems, gas systems and their related equipment, etc.
5. Maintains drawings, schematics and equipment files so that they are current.
6. Must work in co-operation with all other staff to produce a harmonious working relationship throughout the Prairie Mountain Health Region.
7. Participates in various meetings and committees as required.
8. Adheres to all applicable policies, procedures and related codes.
9. Keeps the person you report to, apprised of all pertinent information regarding the functions within the Department.
10. Orders related materials and parts as required.
11. Prepares estimates of time and materials for specific projects as required.
12. May occasionally supervise other categories or lesser-qualified maintenance personnel.
13. May work independently or assist in the installation and repair of building services, building service equipment and various hospital equipment.
14. Participates in new construction and commissioning as required.
15. Performs all required aspects of preventative maintenance.
16. Responds to emergency calls such as Code Red, Code White, etc. as directed.
17. Ensures that equipment, tools, materials, etc. are properly maintained and ensures economic use of the same.
18. Works with a full array of various hand and power tools.
19. Maintains work and equipment areas in a clean, safe and orderly condition.
20. Performs required duties on all Prairie Mountain Health facilities and buildings.
21. Performs other maintenance duties as required, not exceeding skills and capabilities.
22. Notifies person the incumbent reports to, when additional help is required.
23. Ensures that consideration is given to patients and staff by notifying them when services are to be interrupted, when work is to be done and when work has been completed.
24. Position may require heavy lifting, bending and working in elevated areas utilizing scaffolding, etc. and working in confined spaces and enclosures.
25. All of the above must be carried out within Prairie Mountain Health Policies, Procedures and codes governing and related to the profession.
26. Sundry duties as assigned.
