Prairie Land School Division is a public-school authority located in east-central Alberta with its central office in Hanna. Position Summary
Prairie Land School Division is seeking two skilled and compassionate Educational Assistants to join the K-6 Complexity Team. This role supports schools and classroom teachers in responding to the complex academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students in Kindergarten through Grade 6. Working alongside teachers, administrators, and divisional support staff, the Educational Assistant will help implement strategies that support student engagement, positive behavior, and successful participation in classroom learning.
Primary Responsibilities
The Educational Assistants assigned will work collaboratively with classroom teachers and school teams to support students with complex learning and behavioral needs. Responsibilities include assisting with the implementation of individualized academic and behavioral supports, helping students remain engaged in learning, and supporting the use of strategies that promote positive behavior and self-regulation. The role may involve modeling and reinforcing classroom routines, assisting with targeted interventions, and supporting students both individually and in small groups. The Educational Assistants will also contribute to building inclusive classroom environments by working closely with teachers and divisional staff to support student success.
Qualifications
Applicants should have experience supporting children in educational settings. Post-secondary training related to education, child and youth care, or a related field is considered an asset. Experience working with students with diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs is also considered an asset. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, patience, flexibility, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a school team. Knowledge of strategies related to behavior support, inclusion, and differentiated learning will be beneficial.
Travel Expectations
Prairie Land School Division covers a large rural geographic area across east-central Alberta. The successful candidate will be expected to travel regularly to schools throughout the Division to provide in-person support to classroom teams and students. A valid driver's license is required, and the ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of schools across the Division will be important. Division transportation will be provided.
Both positions are full time temporary to start as soon as possible and continuing for the remainder of the school year. There is a possibility that the assignment may be extended into the 2026-2027 school year. Individuals currently in permanent positions that are interested in these positions will retain their permanent status while accepting the temporary assignment through a temporary transfer. Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience working in a multifaceted environment.
