We are seeking a creative, dynamic and committed educators to submit an Expression of Interest for the following Continuing Education position:

Elementary Teacher - Grades 6, 7 & 8 Summer Learning Program 2026



OVERVIEW

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is once again offering both in-person and virtual gap-closing Summer School Learning Programs for students in grades 6, 7 & 8 in July 2026. In alignment with the District’s equitable hiring practices, Continuing Education welcomes applications from interested applicants. Please note that your potential acceptance of work within this non-credit program does not accrue Continuing Education seniority credits.

Program Target Areas:

Mathematics, Language Arts, English as a Second Language

Teacher Commitment (17.5 teaching days)

  • Friday, July 3, from 8:30 am - 11:30 am or time to be determined by the Program Principal (staff meeting/program prep; 0.5 teaching days)

  • Monday, July 6 - Tuesday, July 28, 2026 ( 17 teaching days)



**N.B. All teachers are expected to report to their designated summer school site, whether teaching virtually or in person. Teachers working with accommodations through Employee Wellness, noting summer school dates, are required to share this information with the Principal of Continuing Education before accepting any offer of work to be sure the required accommodations can be met.

Locations (pending enrollment) : Broadview Public School, Kanata Highlands Public School, Steve MacLean Public School, Summerside Public School, and Virtual School. (Synchronous).

Virtual Classes: The sole platforms permitted for use within Virtual Learning are Google Classroom and Google Meet, using OCDSB email addresses only.

Pay Rate: $50.87 per instructional hour + 4% vacation pay.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Teachers will report to the assigned Continuing Education Summer School Program Principal and attend meetings to plan and organize the Summer Program, as required.

Teachers are expected to deliver the assigned Elementary Summer School Program in person or virtually, assess students’ progress and complete report cards.



APPLICATION PROCESS

This is the only teacher posting for the July 2026 Elementary Grades 6, 7, and 8 Summer Program. All teachers (with or without Continuing Education Seniority) may apply to this posting. Ontario Certified Teachers, as well as candidates currently enrolled in a recognized teacher education program (Practicum Teachers), are invited to apply. Preference will be given to applicants in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers, noting qualifications in English and/or Mathematics at the J/I or I/S levels. Additional Qualifications in Special Education and/or ESL are an asset. Other preferred qualifications are:

  • Current and relevant classroom experience.

  • Teaching experience at the Intermediate level (English and/or Mathematics) using high-yield teaching strategies.

  • Direct co-learning experience(s) with other teachers in effective classroom practices.

Teachers may be offered a position based on their applicable qualifications and in accordance with Policy Equitable Recruitment, Hiring and Promotion.



STAFFING TIMELINES

Offers of work will be sent by the Principal of Continuing Education to the preferred, up-to-date email you provided in Apply to Education (ATE) starting in April. Please make sure that your preferred email address is up-to-date in ATE. Due to staffing time constraints associated with the summer school program, offers of work will include very specific 24-hour response parameters for acceptance/decline. Teachers will have 24 hours to respond to the offer. Where acceptances are not received within the 24-hour timeframes specified in the email, it will be assumed that you are declining the offer of work and may lose the opportunity to work within the Summer School program.

PLEASE NOTE: As a condition of employment, all new employees will be required to submit a recent Police Record Check for the vulnerable sector prior to their start date with the OCDSB.
