Casual EarlyON Child and Family Centres Program Facilitator

Overview

Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, the Casual EarlyON Child and Family Centres Program Facilitator is responsible for: overseeing the day-to-day operation of his/her assigned EarlyON Child and Family Centre; working in collaboration with the Principal and school staff to provide a high quality, play-based, developmentally appropriate program that reflects the needs of the community; ensuring consistent program delivery; providing a family literacy program that focuses on developing literacy and numeracy skills; modeling parent-child interactions; facilitating parenting education that promotes a positive home/school partnership; collecting relevant data; monitoring program registration and attendance and maintaining up-to-date and accurate records; providing a nutritious snack daily to the children attending the program; and providing a welcoming, safe, nurturing, inclusive, positive, and respectful environment that recognizes individual differences.

Qualifications and Required Knowledge/Education

A thorough understanding of early childhood development. and knowledge of elementary school operations. Two years’ experience working in an environment with children from birth to age 6 and their families, parent and/or caregiver, trained and certified in providing First Aid and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of adult education principles, experience working in high need communities, as well as the ability to speak a second language is an asset. Incumbent must have knowledge of school board policies and procedures related to early years programs and to the operation of the school system, have the ability to work with minimum supervision within a multicultural environment, and can respect and work with a diverse range of children and families of all backgrounds and abilities; demonstrates sensitivity to individual needs of children in a multi-ethnic and multilingual environment; demonstrates initiative and creativity; has the ability to model healthy adult-child relationships and positive discipline; and adapts well to changing demands. As an effective team player, this position works collaboratively with parents, caregivers and teaching staff to achieve goals, group facilitation, consensus building, and problem-solving skills, and proficient in the use of computer technology.

These skills would normally be acquired through completion of a two-year community college program in Early Childhood Education, or equivalent. Registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators is required , and a minimum of two (2) years experience working within a parent-child and/or child care is required. Valid First Aid certification/CPR is required.

Salary Expectations

$20.85 + 4% vacation pay per hour
