About This Opportunity

Valley Regional Hospital (VRH) is seeking physicians to join their collegial hospitalist team which is comprised of family medicine physicians with an interest for inpatient care, and internists. The program currently consists of five hospitalist lines covering 7-15 acute patients. The standard work week is 7 days on and 7 days off; however, open to discuss alternative scheduling such as weekend coverage, evening/overnight shifts, partial weeks, half days, etc. VRH is a close knit and very collegial site, providing ample support and a rewarding work experience.

VRH opened its doors to patients in 1992. The hospital serves the people of Kings and Annapolis Counties, and provides specialty services as a referral centre for the Annapolis Valley and other areas of Western Nova Scotia. Located in Kentville, VRH is a 137 inpatient bed facility that provides inpatient, outpatient, and satellite care to approximately 80,000 residents. The facility completes approximately 5,800 cases/year with 800 deliveries/year. There is a full surgical program with after-hours surgical coverage for emergency and non-elective procedures.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • be accountable for management of your panel of hospitalist patients
  • provide care and coordination of community-based care, and secondary and tertiary level heath care
  • operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority
  • participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities
Expected Hours
  • The standard work week is 7 days on, 7 days off - open to discuss alternative scheduling such as weekend coverage, evening/overnight shifts, partial weeks, etc.
  • Full line and half line available. Frequency can be negotiated.
  • 8 am-5 pm daily, 7 days a week for the week you are scheduled
  • Remuneration is a daily rate of $1515.25 for a full line with a call rate of $500 per night on weekends (Friday - Sunday) or $350 per night on a weekday (Monday - Thursday), plus fee-for-service billings for anyone seen after 5 pm and before 8 am
  • There are also sessional rates for callback services which are subject to the prevailing annual MSU increase in accordance with the 2023-2027 Physician Agreement and any future negotiated agreements.
Qualifications
  • must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
  • membership with Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
