About Nord Quantique
At Nord Quantique, we strive to build impactful technology by relentlessly pushing our understanding of quantum science. We are an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, innovators, builders, and enthusiasts on a mission to make quantum computing a reality. Our quantum processors are designed to reduce errors in quantum computation to facilitate long-term scaling toward fully-fledged quantum computers. We believe it is our responsibility to deliver this transformative technology for the greater good of society.
Located at the heart of the beautiful Eastern Townships region in the province of Quebec, Canada, we develop our technology in the vibrant quantum ecosystem of Sherbrooke. Leaning on more than a decade of vertical integration of quantum hardware, we are leveraging a comprehensive pool of quantum technology and micro-electronic infrastructure to deploy our quantum computing technology.
Our current needs
As we scale up our quantum processors and supporting infrastructure, we are seeking a skilled and self-driven Senior CAD Technician to join our Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Team. This role will focus on developing, maintaining, and documenting CAD models and technical drawings for cryogenic dilution refrigerators, QPU mechanical assemblies, and supporting infrastructure.
The selected candidate will work closely with Mechanical Engineers, Machinists, and manufacturing partners to translate engineering concepts into accurate, manufacturable, and well-documented CAD designs. The role will also support the development and documentation of electrical wiring layouts, as well as the implementation of a Product Data Management (PDM) system.
Working closely with the Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Team, the selected candidate will:
- Develop and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, BOMs, layouts, and manufacturing drawings for cryogenic and precision mechanical systems.
- Produce accurate technical drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, materials, and manufacturing requirements.
- Support mechanical engineers by translating design concepts and requirements into manufacturable CAD designs.
- Create and maintain wiring diagrams, cable routing, and electrical/mechanical interface documentation for laboratory and cryogenic systems.
- Implement a Product Data Management (PDM) system at the company, including file structures, metadata, workflows, revision control, and document organization, and support its integration with the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
- Maintain CAD libraries, standard components, templates, and drawing standards to ensure consistency and reuse.
- Establish and maintain CAD data and configuration-control practices, ensuring released models, drawings, and documentation are accurate, traceable, and up to date.
- Support design reviews and vendor interactions through CAD models.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of CAD, PDM, and documentation processes to support long-term scalability and reproducibility.
Education and experience requirements:
- Technical diploma (DEC) in Mechanical Engineering Technology (Techniques de génie mécanique) or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
- 8+ years of professional experience in mechanical CAD and technical drafting, preferably in an R&D, advanced manufacturing, scientific instrumentation, aerospace or other precision engineering environment.
- Practical experience with PDM, PLM, or other document/configuration management systems is strongly preferred.
Sought expertise and knowledge:
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, Onshape, or equivalent 3D CAD software.
- Strong knowledge of 3D modeling, complex assemblies, technical drawings, GD&T, and mechanical detailing.
- Experience developing and maintaining wiring diagrams, cable routing, and electrical/mechanical interface documentation.
- Good understanding of DFM/DFA and manufacturing processes for precision mechanical components.
- Strong understanding of revision control, engineering change processes (ECR/ECO), and configuration management principles.
- Ability to build and manage large, complex assemblies while keeping models stable, performant, and easy to reuse.
Sought profile:
- Great sense of autonomy and dependability.
- Highly organized, methodical and detail-oriented.
- Proficient in producing clear and concise technical documentation.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, external vendors, suppliers, and development partners.
- Excellent prioritization skills focused on achieving company objectives.
- Willingness to learn and explore new concepts.
- Team-oriented mindset with a focus on cooperation and knowledge sharing within the team.
