Nisga'a School District No. 92 invites applications for a Nisga'a Language & Culture Secondary (0.6 FTE) & District Helping Teacher (0.4 FTE). Reporting directly to the Director of Indigenous Education/Early Learning, Tanya Azak, this is a temporary, full-time position starting September 2, 2025 and ending June 26, 2026.

Role Overview
The teacher plans, prepares and engages Secondary students in lessons that guide and support their progression of learning, aligning their teaching with the Language Essentials curriculum, using frequent & differentiated assessment and feedback to support growth. Fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues is also a benefit. The role includes participating in professional development and adhering to school policies to create a safe and inclusive learning environment. Our school also engages in experiential opportunities where students, in multiage/cross grade groupings, focus on inquiry-based exploration, as well as on the land learning in and around Lisims (the Nass Valley).
As District Helping Teacher, the candidate will assist the Director of Indigenous Education/Early Learning with district language initiatives in the four elementary schools.
Qualifications:
- Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for). Must be legally permitted to work in Canada
- Experience delivering a elementary and secondary learning programs
- Working knowledge of the learning standards, curricular competencies, and core competencies within the BC Curriculum
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn the Language Essentials curriculum
- Appreciation for the key role that Language and Culture play in Indigenous Education
- A learner focused attitude
- An inquiry-based mind set
- Respect for diversity
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Respect for the importance of meaningful parent involvement in school
- Effective classroom management skills
- Commitment to collaboration and teamwork with colleagues
- Willingness to challenge student learners in a culturally rich environment
- Extensive knowledge of Nisga'a history, culture and language.
