Your team:
The Treasury Risk Management team within National Bank stands out for its multidisciplinary nature and varied skills, offering a comprehensive approach. It covers National Bank’s Insurance and Pension Plan’s platforms, establishing the overall risk framework, in collaboration with the business line, and monitoring the exposure to these risks.
The ALM and Investment team within National Bank Capital Markets stands out for its cross-functional ALM role for National Bank (including for some of its platforms such as the insurance division), the quality of its deliveries and its development of specialized expertise while working in a collaborative and enriching work environment. The team makes sure that interest rates and affiliated risk from all ALM functions (including insurance) are well identified, assessed and managed.
The Actuarial team within National Bank Life Insurance Company stands out for the rigor of its corporate work, its in-depth knowledge of the life insurance sector, and its ability to understand and communicate the financial impacts of various scenarios or initiatives. The team measures, models and values financial risks to ensure the company's profitability and sustainability.

Actuarial internships
Our Program:
Our internship program offers dynamic hands-on exposure working alongside seasoned professionals and assisting members of the team in executing their responsibilities. Yours will include:
Treasury Risk Management team:
- Analyzing and monitoring investment policies and risk frameworks
- Providing risk analyses to challenge investment decisions
- Analyzing the positions and investment strategies of mandates, making sure they correspond to risk appetites
- Conducting literature review on current actuarial topics and best practices
ALM and Investment team:
- Supporting the team in modelling products, building risk indicators and assessing their impacts
- Performing profitability analyses based on pricing assumptions, product characteristics and ALM strategies
- Developing tools to optimize position tracking and contributing to the development of ALM strategies
Actuarial and Product teams (hybrid internship):
- Performing experience studies
- Performing solvency ratio calculations
- Participating in reserve calculations
- Collaborating with the ALM and Investment & Treasury Risk Management teams on new initiatives
- Identifying the product’s differentiating elements to maximize its market impact
Candidate Profile:
Applicants to this role should be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in mathematics or actuarial science and must be able to work in Canada.

- Undergraduate or master’s program student and legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Strong interpersonal skills, detail oriented, organized, proactive and high level of intellectual curiosity.
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills with the specific ability to communicate concepts and ideas concisely.
- Strong analytical skills, solid knowledge of actuarial concepts and good understanding of IFRS17.
- Aptitude to synthesize large amounts of information and develop innovative solutions.
- Proficiency with programming languages (e.g., Python) and advanced Excel skills.
- Capacity to manage projects independently.
- Team player with the ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
- Outstanding ethics, integrity and judgement.
- Ability to comfortably interact with stakeholders in a professional and mature manner.
- Strong academic track record and pertinent extracurricular activities
- French required, English is an asset.
