Description
A career as a Senior Advisor Estates Specialist in the Risk team at National Bank Independent Network (NBIN), means acting as an expert in all matters related to the administration and settlement of estates in Canada. You will lead the NBIN Estates Centre of Expertise, creating efficiencies and improving our resources to ensure that we offer all clients a consistent and empathetic service. With your problem solving and analytical skills, your experience in financial services and or the legal field and your expertise in estates matters, you’ll have a positive impact on our business and our clients.
Your role
- Provide support and expertise on all estates matters for NBIN Service teams and client firms
- Develop resources and training materials for colleagues and clients
- Act as escalation point for complex estates cases
- Review and approve exceptions: Waiver of Probate, missing documents, procedural exceptions and other unusual cases
- Collaborate with the Operations Estates team to establish and implement best practices
- Support NBIN’s registered plan beneficiary designation program
- Review NBIN’s existing beneficiary designations for non-residents and Quebec-residents:
- Develop risk tolerance for non-resident beneficiary designations and build business case for approval
- Oversee the review and approval of exceptions
- Manage backlog review and remediation, where required

The Senior Advisor Estates Specialist will report to the Senior Manager, Risk. The NBIN Risk team is responsible for operational risk oversight within NBIN. NBIN is a division of National Bank Financial Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of National Bank of Canada. NBIN is the premier provider of carrying broker, trading and custodial services to Portfolio Managers, Introducing Brokers, and Investment Fund Managers across Canada.

Prerequisites
- 7+ years experience managing estates matters in financial services or the legal field
- Educated to degree level, minimum of a Bachelor's degree OR additional professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to lead, create efficiency, optimize, add value, and go above and beyond in normal duties
- Experience in writing and optimizing policies and procedures
- Experience / qualified as a lawyer, paralegal or notary an asset
- Ability to communicate in French at a professional level would be considered an asset
