As an Investment Banking Associate on the Energy Investment Banking team at National Bank Financial Inc. ("NBF"), you will participate in a wide variety of transactions headed by senior members of the investment banking team focused on Energy Infrastructure. You will gain exposure to the client’s business and deepen your knowledge of M&A advisory and capital markets to support the growth and expansion of our clients.

NBF’s Energy Investment Banking team is looking to hire one Investment Banking Associate to work out of its Calgary office. The successful candidate will benefit from on-the-job training and mentorship, supplemented by occasional third-party training in financial modelling and various tools used in our day-to-day work.
Although the emphasis is placed on analysis, financial modelling and written presentations, candidates must also demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with clients, colleagues, and other advisors.

Your Job
- Performing analysis and preparing presentation materials to support our clients’ decision making
- Providing support in the execution of M&A transactions in addition to capital markets transactions, including equity and fixed income
- Building complex financial models and performing valuation analysis
- Conducting a variety of industry and company research and analysis
- Performing various tasks supporting senior team members in their deal execution and client coverage efforts

Basic Requirements
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in finance, accounting, economics or engineering is preferred along with a track record of outstanding academic performance
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of corporate finance, valuation and capital markets
- Requires a minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in investment banking, equity research, or capital markets
- Experience in the energy infrastructure, pipelines/midstream or upstream sectors is required; prior experience in power and utilities would also be considered an asset
- Demonstrated financial modelling skillset; additional background and knowledge of the integration of debt/capital structure principles in analysis is also an asset
- Exceptional proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, and Word
- Experience with Bloomberg and Capital IQ would be considered an asset
- Demonstrated problem-solving mindset, collaborative approach and great team spirit
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships
- Excellent communication skills in English (spoken and written)
