National Bank Financial is seeking a highly motivated and technically strong professional to join its Risk Management Solutions (RMS) group as an Associate Director within the Structured Credit & Insurance team. In this role, you will play a key part in the design, structuring, and execution of complex transactions, working closely with the Managing Director and collaborating extensively with internal partners across trading, legal, risk, and capital teams.
This is a highly technical position suited for individuals with strong structuring skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex processes involving multiple stakeholders.
The role involves the structuring and execution of a wide range of products, including:
• Credit derivatives (e.g., CDS, TRS)
• Credit linked notes (CLNs)
• Significant Risk Transfer (SRT) and other regulatory capital solutions
• Insurance linked securities (ILS)
• (Re)insurance based risk transfer structures
Transactions are executed with a sophisticated institutional client base, including financial institutions (banks and insurers), pension funds, and asset managers.
Your Job
- Lead the structuring and design of bespoke transactions involving credit derivatives and insurance-linked solutions
- Support the execution of transactions across the full lifecycle, from initial concept through to closing
- Coordinate internally with trading, legal, credit, risk, capital, and operations teams to ensure seamless deal execution
- Develop and maintain detailed financial models and transaction analytics (including exposure, pricing, and capital impacts)
- Assist in the preparation of client materials and transaction documentation
- Contribute to the development of new structures and solutions tailored to client needs
- Ensure adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements, including documentation and approval processes
- Maintain a high standard of organization and attention to detail across multiple concurrent transactions
Your Team
Risk Management Solutions is responsible for originating and structuring derivative transactions and tailored solutions that help clients manage financial risks, optimize balance sheets, and address regulatory capital requirements. The team operates across multiple asset classes-including interest rates, foreign exchange, equities, commodities, and credit-working closely with trading, structuring, and banking partners across the platform.
The Structured Credit & Insurance team is a specialized desk within RMS, dedicated to the origination and structuring of complex credit derivative and insurance-linked transactions. The team partners with financial institutions and institutional investors to deliver bespoke solutions focused on credit risk transfer, capital relief, and risk distribution.
Based in Toronto, this role reports to the Managing Director, Structured Credit & Insurance. It offers the opportunity to join a growing and highly specialized platform, working on sophisticated and intellectually rigorous transactions at the intersection of credit, derivatives, and insurance. You will gain deep exposure to complex deal structuring while collaborating with experienced professionals across trading, structuring, and capital markets.
Basic Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in finance, engineering, mathematics, or a related field
- CFA, Master’s degree, or other advanced designation is an asset
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in derivatives structuring, XVA, or capital markets
- Strong experience with OTC derivatives and transaction structuring
- Exposure to credit derivatives, structured credit, insurance, or ILS is a strong asset
- Advanced financial modeling and structuring capabilities
- Strong understanding of derivatives pricing and risk concepts
- Familiarity with legal documentation (e.g., ISDA and related agreements)
- Knowledge of regulatory capital frameworks (e.g., Basel regimes)
- Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
- Python or other programming skills strongly preferred
- Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Ability to manage complex processes and multiple stakeholders simultaneously
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Effective communicator with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly
- Team-oriented, with the ability to operate in a high-performance environment
