Primary Duties:
École St. John Paul II is seeking a compassionate, collaborative, and skilled School Liaison Counsellor (SLC) to join our Learning Services team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students and families by addressing social and emotional needs that impact school success. The SLC will act as a bridge between the school, families, and community resources to promote student well-being and academic engagement.
Provide individual and group support to students experiencing emotional or social challenges
Collaborate with school staff to identify and respond to students’ needs
Develop and maintain trusting relationships with students and families
Connect families with appropriate community resources and services
Support families in navigating educational and mental health systems
Assist in crisis situations and provide short-term counseling or intervention
Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and school initiatives
Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with division policies
Promote positive school climate and inclusive practices
Technical Skills Required:
Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Psychiatric Nursing, or other related degree
Registered or eligible for registration with a relevant professional body (e.g., ACSW, CYC Association)
Previous experience working with children, youth, and families in a school or community setting
Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Understanding of trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices
Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle may be required
Current criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening

Associate Superintendent of Learning Services, Hugh Lehr
