The Global Hedging - Variable and Indexed-Linked Products (GHVILP) team is part of the Global Asset Liability Management function within the General Account. The team is responsible for establishing and managing global hedging programs at Manulife. The program currently manages both the company’s balance sheet equity risk through the Macro program and the market risks associated with variable annuity (VA) and indexed universal life (IUL) products. As an intern/co-op, you’ll play a key role in the daily risk exposure mapping processes that drive our hedging programs. This is a unique opportunity to explore hedging strategies, risk analysis, and financial derivatives in a global investment environment.

There are two sub-groups within Global Hedging - Variable and Indexed-Linked Product: Strategy and Actuarial Modeling. This internship is within the Strategy group. The Strategy group is responsible for the hedging assets and is headed by the Director, Global Hedging - Variable and Indexed-Linked Products Strategy. The Strategy group’s primary responsibility is to identify our risk exposures and design robust hedging strategies to mitigate market risks. The Strategy group is also responsible for the monitoring and high-level reporting on the performance of all aspects of the group’s hedging programs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Produce aggregate exposure reports used to support our internal hedging programs

  • Leverage Bloomberg and Reuters market data applications to:

  • Ensure individual securities are correctly classified in the internal fund mapping application

  • Ensure security classification data remains up-to-date and reflective of most recent corporate actions and other market related impacts

  • Produce ad-hoc risk exposure reports for exchange traded funds and mutual funds hedged as part of the program

Required Qualifications:

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in business, mathematics (preferably financial modelling) or actuarial science

  • Detailed oriented and organized individual

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Highly proactive, self-motivated, and capable of meeting tight deadlines.
