Summer Intern 2027 - Global Hedging, Variable and Indexed-Linked Products

Toronto, ON
  • To be discussed
  • Published since 1 day(s)

  • 1 position to fill as soon as possible

Are you curious about financial markets and eager to learn how global insurance companies manage risk? Join Manulife’s Global Hedging - Variable and Indexed-Linked Products team as an Intern, where you’ll work alongside experienced professionals, gain hands-on exposure to managing financial risks, and contribute to innovative solutions that make a real impact.

The Global Hedging - Variable and Indexed-Linked Products (GHVILP) team is part of the Global Asset Liability Management function within the General Account. The team is responsible for establishing and managing global hedging programs at Manulife. The program currently manages both the company’s balance sheet equity risk through the Macro program and the market risks associated with variable annuity (VA) and indexed universal life (IUL) products.

As an intern, you’ll play a key role in the daily risk exposure mapping processes that drive our hedging programs. This is a unique opportunity to explore hedging strategies, risk analysis, and financial derivatives in a global investment environment.

We’re looking for someone who is curious, detail-oriented, and eager to learn-ready to contribute in a collaborative environment and grow through hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Produce aggregate exposure reports used to support our internal hedging programs
  • Leverage Bloomberg and Reuters market data applications to:
    • Ensure individual securities are correctly classified in the internal fund mapping application
    • Ensure security classification data remains up-to-date and reflective of most recent corporate actions and other market related impacts
    • Produce ad-hoc risk exposure reports for exchange traded funds and mutual funds hedged as part of the program

How will you create impact?

There are two sub-groups within Global Hedging - Variable and Indexed-Linked Product: Strategy and Actuarial Modeling. This internship is within the Strategy group. The Strategy group is responsible for the hedging assets and is headed by the Director, Global Hedging - Variable and Indexed-Linked Products Strategy. The Strategy group’s primary responsibility is to identify our risk exposures and design robust hedging strategies to mitigate market risks. The Strategy group is also responsible for the monitoring and high-level reporting on the performance of all aspects of the group’s hedging programs.

The VA and IUL programs are high profiles within the company and attract positive attention to high performing team members. The nature of the work is very practical, ultimately leading to trades in the market. The work in the Strategy group is generally on the boundary of Front and Middle office roles in a traditional investment banking group.
