Job Description

As a member of IFRS 17 Policy and Financial Analysis Team, this position provides oversight and analysis on Manulife's IFRS 17 results, including the financial reporting, financial notes, various disclosures and presentations. The incumbent will develop a strong understanding of the current standard for IFRS 17, work collaboratively with various areas to assess the financial and business implications of the new standards.

The position provides the meaningful opportunity for collaborating with other areas of Group Finance as well as various business divisions of Manulife, and for gaining an understanding of the many types of business and operating environments across the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the financial reporting and Drivers of Earnings at Manulife. This involves supporting earnings review meetings, analyzing results, and following up on areas where further investigation is needed.

  • Help inform other parties of the financial results and their implications, such as communicating with investor relations, inforce management, ALM, and risk management.

  • Provide support and collaborate with the segments as they complete their results. Follow-up and investigate their questions to provide guidance where needed

  • Complete projects as needed to improve our ability to explain the financial results, or improve our disclosures

  • Help maintain and improve Corporate Valuation Standards

  • Provide support on audit requests, such as quarterly reserve rollforward analysis

Knowledge/Skills/Proficiencies/Education:

  • Fellow of Society of Actuaries, or Associate with equivalent experience

  • Detailed oriented with ability to learn new concepts and their application quickly

  • Strong modelling and analytical capabilities

  • Strong written communication skills (Word and PowerPoint)

  • Flexibility to manage multiple and competing priorities

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely when presenting technical issues, options, and recommendations to management.

  • Ability to work on cross-functional teams - proven ability to build relationships and influence others.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$73,290.00 CAD - $136,110.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
