POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary role of the Operator / Backup Crane Utility Operator is to serve as a Press Operator, with additional responsibilities as a Backup Crane Utility Operator when needed. As a Press Operator, the incumbent is responsible for assembling products using assigned welding equipment and machinery. As a Backup Crane Utility Operator, the incumbent is responsible for the proper storage, disassembly, cleaning, and re-assembly of dies. Additionally, they are responsible for receiving, checking, safely storing, organizing, and documenting all incoming coils and blanks, including managing inventories and usage. The incumbent also handles the loading of raw materials into production equipment.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Equivalent to completion of high school and/or related work experience
2. Previous experience in operating crane equipment or crane certification training is preferred
3. Ability to understand/follow direction and work safely
4. Ability to operate required equipment and machinery safety and effectively.
5. Skill gained by experience working in a manufacturing facility
6. Must be to operate basic computer functions including software programs and applications
DUTIES:
1. Operates machinery/equipment by loading single or multiple parts onto fixtures (lifts, moves, stacks, etc.)
2. Troubleshoots equipment within scope of responsibility.
3. Be flexible and open to changes in assignment to provide support to other areas of the department.
4. Trains workers (fulltime or temporary) in machine specific training as required
5. Ensure WIP meets standards
6. Takes part in the continuous improvement process to improve productivity and quality (provides suggestions, participates in problem-solving, volunteers on committee or focus group activities, etc.) and focuses on solutions.
7. Alert Supervisor/Team Leader of any safety, quality, maintenance or production concerns related to equipment.
8. Performs First Offs and Last Offs as required.
9. Performs visual and documented inspections on parts as required by the customer.
10. Able to operate basic computer functions including software programs and applications.
11. Removes dies from bolster and puts in storage or transports to service area.
12. Clean top of bolsters, T-slots & perform other 5S duties as required.
13. Cleans and disassembles dies required for service
14. Reassembles dies after service and returns to stamping department or storage area.
15. Places dies on bolster and clamps down according to requirements of press schedule.
16. Perform daily visual inspections of equipment (i.e. crane, c-hook, fork truck)
17. Loads coils to coil car or cradle and/or blanks into blank loader as required. This will take precedence over unloading of trucks.
18. Threads coils to the Press as required during operator lunches and breaks and die changes.
19. Cuts and bands coils at feeder as required in a safe manner during operator lunches and breaks and die changes.
20. Unloads/loads steel coils/blanks, performs visual checks for defects or damage, and stores in a safe manner provided all coils are pre-staged on coil cars and cradles before doing so.
21. Performs incoming inspection of coil width and thickness in comparison to control plan. Verifies blanks to master and checks BOL to coil weight. Deliver BOL to material control in a timely fashion.
22. Enter Mechanical Properties into database for each coil received.
23. Train Material handlers who receive coils on the tape measure use and process/ need sign offs.
24. Comes to work each day, as scheduled. Approaches each day and each challenge with a positive attitude.
25. Conducts themselves in a professional manner when receiving or giving feedback/information, whether it is positive or constructive.
26. Supports and complies with all operational procedures/policies, including those stated in the Employee Handbook, Quality and Environmental programs (e.g., ISO/IATF-16949, ISO14001), and the requirements of IATF 16949 and ISO 14001.
27. Perform all duties in a safe manner in accordance with Section 28 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Industrial Establishments-Duties of Workers. **Other duties as required, see HR for full job description.

RESPONSIBILITY AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Under the general direction of the Stamping Department Leader or designate, the incumbent works within established guidelines for safety, people, quality and production. The operator is required to carry out routine, tasks under the direction of the production Supervisor or Team Leader. The operator may be required to lift materials/parts ranging from 0-40 lbs (depending on process) and is exposed regularly to elements such as temperature and noise.
