IPAC Specialist

Reporting to the Infection Prevention and Control Manager, the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Specialist is a member of the Western York Region IPAC Hub team. The IPAC Specialist will support the development, implementation and evaluation of the IPAC program in congregate settings (Long Term Care Facilities, Retirement Homes, and other congregate living settings (CLSs) i.e. shelters, group homes) and the development and delivery of educational materials throughout the Western York Region IPAC Hub.

What must you have?

  • Minimum of 1 year of additional relevant certification or a combination of education and recent relevant experience required
  • Degree in relevant health science or related discipline and current registration with the relevant college/association or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current certification with the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC) is preferred; or candidates actively pursuing certification, with a commitment to obtain certification within the first year of hire is required Completion of an Infection Prevention and Control Canada endorsed IPAC course.
  • Current IPAC Canada member in good standing. Active member of IPAC GTA Chapter.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

What else do you bring?

  • Knowledge of IPAC best practices in congregate settings and ability to identify gaps and reinforce best practices.
  • Ability to assess, analyze, and implement protocols and practices and assure compliance with provincial and federal infection control directives, recommendations, and guidelines.
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize adult learning principles in education.
  • Knowledge of epidemiologic principles, statistics, microbiology, and infectious diseases with the ability to integrate this knowledge into clinical practice
  • Exemplary interpersonal, communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external community partners.
  • Flexible team player capable of working both independently and within a team environment.
  • Demonstrate excellence in communication, both written and verbal.
  • Implement and conduct surveillance activities according to established criteria, best practices, and evidence-based research
  • Excellent report writing, computer skills, and familiarity with multiple software programs for data entry, statistical analysis and report writing purposes required
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent presentation skills

  • Effectively uses empathy in interactions with others.

Preferably, your profile also includes:

  • Experience in infection prevention and control in long term care and other congregate settings.
  • Experience in Infection prevention and Control in an acute healthcare setting.
