Job Summary:

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling the productivity and efficiency of the workforce while ensuring a safe workplace that protects food quality and safety, at the lowest possible cost.

The Maintenance Manager ensures that all machinery, the building (air-conditioning, heating, electricity, plumbing, refrigeration, ventilation, etc.), and property are maintained in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

What you will do:

  • Solicit and analyze Requests for Proposal (RFPs) for contracts with third parties, negotiate contract terms and conditions with the National Procurement Group and monitor their performance
  • Recommend the best direction for managing the effectiveness of the work that is out-sourced to third parties, ensuring that we minimize the total system cost whilst maximizing the benefits that the out-sourced structure should provide
  • Stay current with all laws and regulations that apply to the scope of responsibility and ensure we are compliant with them
  • Ensure that the facility and material handling equipment (MHE) are kept in good working order
  • Develop operating expense and capital budget and periodic estimate recommendations and Capital Appropriation Requests
  • Be an integral contributor to all major renovation and expansion projects, whether through leading or participating on the project team
  • Develop processes to monitor and control efficient, effective operations in the department against all Major Accountabilities, including the development of a Preventive Maintenance database, ensuring that all variances are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Lead and manage the Maintenance team
  • Lead the management of our environmental area, e.g. recycling program and waste disposal services

What you will need:

  • Ensure 3rd party services contracts are kept current and achieve the intended advantages of 3rd party use
  • Routinely review reciprocal report cards with each of the 3rd party service providers
  • Ensure CLS maintenance practices are performed to have minimal disruption to the operation (ideally have zero work refusals, zero lock-outs and zero penalties)
  • Achieve compliance with all Ministry of Labour inspections within time frames issued
  • Ensure DC operations are not interrupted or impeded by maintenance-caused issues or constraints
  • Carry out preventative maintenance on all equipment completed on schedule
  • Carry out effective Pest control program, with ideally zero pests, zero infestations, and zero “alive” pest sightings
  • Work alongside the Compliance department to ensure that all Ministry of the Environment waste regulations are being monitored, focusing on Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
  • Exceed previous years’ Maintenance Health and Safety Audit scores
  • Zero lost time hours due to maintenance employee accidents, with ideally zero accidents/incidents
  • Achieve insurance rating that meets or exceeds previous year inspection audit
  • Ability and availability to work irregular or extended hours including nights, weekends and potentially on holidays as needed by the customer

Experience, Education, and Training:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred; equivalent combination of technical and business experience considered in lieu of degree
  • Certificate from a trade school with mechanical or electrical emphasis preferred
  • Continuously updated knowledge of, and experience with, best practices in preventive maintenance and repairs for all aspects of the facility and equipment
  • Experience with operating budgets (labor, utilities, and repairs), capital projects/budgets and controlled within agreed-to budgets and estimates
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with all levels and functional areas of the facility and business
  • Possesses a strong customer service attitude
  • Solid leadership and colleague management skills
  • Computer knowledge in MS Office, Word, Excel, and experience with Cetaris would be an asset
