The Senior Labour Relations Specialist is a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to business leaders and HR in the application, interpretation, and implementation of the collective agreement. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with the union, facilitating conflict resolution processes, administering the collective agreement, and providing consultation on sensitive labour relations matters. Overall, the Senior Labour Relations Specialist plays a pivotal role in fostering a positive, collaborative and productive relationship between LifeLabs and its unionized workforce in B.C.

Status: Temporary Full Time
Schedule: Mon- Fri
Additional Requirements: The ideal candidate will be required to work in the office minimum one day per week

Your Responsibility will include:

  • Advise managers on LifeLabs agreement with the BCGEU ensuring understanding and consistent interpretation and application
  • Coach and train management on effective management of the collective agreement
  • Provide guidance and support to leaders and HR partners on grievance handling, arbitration, investigations, and disciplinary actions. Collaborate with legal counsel and HR to manage disputes and minimize organizational risk
  • Lead planning and implementation of Labour Councils involving business leaders and HR appropriately
  • Support the development of resources and tools to equip managers with the skills and tools necessary to effectively manage in a unionized environment, increase employee engagement, and develop resilience and adaptability
  • Maintain accurate records of union interactions, grievances, and resolutions
  • Represent the organization in meetings with union representatives, mediators, and arbitrators
  • Assist in developing strategies for improving labour relations

What you will bring to the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working in labour relations in a complex unionized environment
  • Solid knowledge of Human Resources policies and procedures, and employment-related legislation in B.C
  • Experience chairing grievance meetings and preparing cases for arbitration
  • Strong negotiation, and communication skills
  • Ability to influence, resolve conflict, and manage sensitive situations with diplomacy and tact
