Our Genetics Medical Lab Technologists provide accurate and timely interpretive and diagnostic specimen testing and reporting. Through accuracy, quality, efficiency and expediting test results, you will contribute to patient well-being and the achievement of better health outcomes. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting a wide range of diagnostic and interpretive specimen testing
  • Performing, interpreting, and releasing results, while ensuring the confidentiality of patient information.
  • Identifying incidents and non-conformities, participating in the development of effective corrective action plans, escalating as appropriate and driving continuous improvement.
  • Assisting with the evaluation and implementation of new technology.
  • Participating in problem solving in work organization and workflow.
  • Maintain and demonstrate technical competence.
  • Recognize discrepancies and take appropriate action.
  • Manage the disposal of all laboratory waste as specified in EHS procedures.
  • Comply with all safety regulations as they relate to the laboratory environment (i.e., WHMIS, TDG, LifeLabs Safety manual)
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Actively participate in team huddles and meetings
  • Ensure effective communication when dealing with leadership team, support resources, team members.
  • Work in an organized fashion, maintain quality of patient care.
  • Keep up to date with information shared through the different modes of communication (e.g., memos, LifeLabs websites, updates, bulletin boards)
  • Accountable for a safe and healthy working environment for all employees
  • Maintain safe work practices and procedures.

 

What you will bring to the role:

  • Advanced diploma in Clinical Genetics Technology required.
  • CMLTO registered in Clinical Genetics - Dual Molecular & Cytogenetics
  • 3 years of MLT experience or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills to enable you to relate with a wide variety of people.
  • Good computer skills and knowledge.
  • Problem solving skills, including the ability to identify and follow-up on issues.
  • Ability to maintain the strictest standards of safety, patient privacy and confidentiality.
