LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to join our Genetics team in Toronto, Ontario. This is an important role in patient care and our business, and will let you see the difference that you make in patients' lives. Status: Temporary Full Time, 37.5 hours per week; End Date: December 31, 2025 (potential to extend)
Shift: Day Shift: 7-3/9-5, Mon-Fri
Additional Information: This is a Full Time 6-month contract role suitable for an individual with a Day Schedule, with potential to be extended. This is a great role for a hands-on, detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Perform a variety of medical genetic procedures as outlined in laboratory procedures manual.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of testing requests, perform data entry, and follow-up as necessary.
- Demonstrate knowledge of specimen handling requirements and prioritization of specimens and results, following LifeLabs procedures.
- Perform sample preparation and nucleic acid extraction from various sample types.
- Perform instrument maintenance and QC.
- Assist with standard molecular lab applications, under the guidance of a medical laboratory technologist.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Report unresolved problems to senior technologist or supervisor, as appropriate.
- Prioritize work and respond to urgent or unpredictable demands for specimen processing or testing.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and validations aimed at improving efficiency.
- Follow Universal Precautions in handling all specimens received in the laboratory.
What you will bring to the role:
- Undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology preferred.
- Hands-on work experience in a clinical genetics or molecular genetics laboratory.
- Working knowledge of molecular genetic nomenclature and clinical conventions.
- Experience with standard molecular lab applications and instrumentation (ex.: DNA extraction, micro pipetting, PCR set up).
- Experience with complex data entry, sample processing and computer skills.
