You are a Junior Pole Line Designer with foundational knowledge of pole line analysis software and national and regional codes and standards. You will support the preparation of conceptual route designs, layouts, and preliminary drawings, as well as assist with detailed pole line designs under established guidelines and specifications. Essential Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation of conceptual routes, layouts, and preliminary pole line designs, as well as support the development of detailed pole line designs under established guidelines and specifications
- Participate in field surveys of existing aerial plant, collecting data on poles, spans, attachments, and site conditions
- Support structure loading, conductor sag/tension, and clearance calculations, under guidance from senior designers and engineers
- Apply design criteria based on industry standards and client specifications, with mentorship and technical oversight
- Assist in following and improving procedures, processes, and systems to support efficient field data collection, design, and documentation
- Support the preparation of construction drawings and joint-use permit applications
- Participate in quality control reviews and constructability checks, and provide support during construction as needed
- Collaborate with OSP Design, Construction and other Departments on engineering matters.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders (power utilities, municipalities, hwy, railway, water)
- Promotes a culture of health, safety and environmental protection on the project by taking an active role in the implementation of the Project Specific Safety Program (PSSP) to achieve compliance with Ledcor HS&E standards, applicable OSHA acts, regulations and codes
Qualifications:
- Graduate from a Technical college program preferably in Structural or civil, Telecommunications or equivalent experience
- Working knowledge of pole line design documents, drawings, specifications and current construction practices and methodology.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with CSA, AEUC codes and standards as well as specific power utility (BC Hydro Fortis BC and AB, ATCO, EPCOR, ENAMX) client and municipal requirements.
- Strong computer skills with an aptitude for learning new programs; familiar with AutoCAD, GIS (GPS hardware and software, Google Earth, ArcGIS), and MS Office (Word, Excel and OneNote). Proficiency in MS Excel required, preferably with working knowledge of Visual Basic macros. Familiar with Ai tools.
- Exposure to pole line analysis software such as SPIDAcalc, Quick Pole, or PLS-CADD is an asset but not required
- Eligible for or working toward EIT registration is an asset.
- Successful completion of criminal background check and pre-employment drug & alcohol requirements.
- A valid Class 7 driver’s license (Class 5 preferred).
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil, structural, electrical or mechanical) or related discipline from an accredited engineering school is considered an asset.
- Previous pole line or telecom design experience is considered a strong asset but not mandatory.
Working Conditions:
- This is hybrid position that will involve both in-office days and site visits
Compensation
$ 51, 200 - 70, 400 AnnuallyThis is the expected base pay range for this role. Individual base pay will be determined based on a variety of factors including experience, knowledge, skills, education and location.
