We are currently seeking an experienced legal paralegal to join our litigation practice in Montreal. This role will support three partners and five lawyers with document processing and client service responsibilities. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys a dynamic, client-facing team environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative, attention to detail and organizational skills, with a desire to be part of a customer-focused culture.


What you will do

 

Legal Component 

  • Process, edit and proofread a range of documents, including legal agreements, procedural documents, presentations and correspondence
  • Generate comparative versions of documents
  • Assist in the electronic filing of litigation documents
  • Support litigation team with client administrative issues
  • Support litigation team with legal proceedings and related filings with relevant government authorities
  • Administer large project files involving direct contact with customers
  • Support the litigation team in court cases and appeals.

 

Risk Management

  • Responsible for drafting and preparing engagement letters for clients
  • Check records to ensure completeness and accuracy of data for risk management and brand protection in line with national guidelines
  • Follow up on receipt of signed engagement letters and maintain a list of expired engagement letters.
  • Become the contact person to liaise between regional and national teams.

 

Coordination Comptent :

  • Proactively and independently manage partner calendar and contact database to maximize optimal use of partner time.
  • Coordinate internal, external and virtual meetings for the litigation team
  • Ensure the preparation and submission of partner timesheets and expense reports.

What you bring to the role

The successful candidate will possess the following skills and attitudes:

  • College certificate or diploma, or equivalent combination of experience
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a paralegal
  • Professional experience in litigation
  • Experience in corporate transaction support is considered an asset
  • Strong document processing skills required (e.g. formatting and editing in Microsoft Office and Adobe, style conversion, cross-referencing, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational and follow-up skills
  • Attention to detail, proofreading and accuracy required
  • Positive and enthusiastic approach
  • Able to work in a team
