Description
At KPMG, you’ll join a team of diverse and dedicated problem solvers, connected by a common cause: turning insight into opportunity for clients and communities around the world.
KPMG’s Accounting Advisory Services professionals bring a combination of deep technical knowledge and industry experience to the challenges at hand, whether it be helping clients understand and plan for the accounting implications and wider consequences of significant transactions or restructurings, transitioning to new accounting standards or dealing with complex accounting and financial reporting matters.
The Public Sector Accounting Advisory team in the Ontario & Atlantic region is looking for a Manager/Senior Manager to join their Ottawa team.
In this role you will leverage your technical, financial reporting and project management skills in order to support a wide variety of public sector clients through challenges including new standards implementation projects, business process reviews, complex transactions or restructurings and financial management initiatives.
What you will do
- Advising public sector entities on the implementation of new Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS)
- Developing robust position papers and working papers to support auditability.
- Leading and contributing to accounting advisory projects, including financial reporting and business process design; restructuring and transactions; analysis of complex accounting matters under multiple frameworks with a focus on PSAB, as well as IFRS, ASPE, and ASNPO
- Planning for and developing internal and external thought leadership for publications and events; facilitating and participating in client workshops and events
- Assisting in business development initiatives such as the identification of market opportunities and writing proposals.
- Assisting clients with the evaluation of accounting requirements, reporting and disclosure standards, and preparing supporting analyses through drafting of reports and presentations
- Work with broader KPMG advisory teams including Management Consulting, Risk Consulting and Deal Advisory, in support of process/control redesign and advising on other business implications to your clients when assessing the impact of accounting change
At times, business needs arise, and employees are required and agree to work beyond their normal workday or work week to fulfill the accountabilities required for their job. Likewise, people need time to devote to personal matters, and our approach to flexibility provides for this.
You will be required to work in the office or at client sites for a minimum of 3 days a week. This position includes travel up to 20%.
What you bring to the role
- Must have relevant post-secondary degree
- Canadian CPA designation or international equivalent
- 6+ years of professional work experience, including 4+ years in a public accounting setting
- Experience working in the public sector environment
- Eligibility to obtain government security clearances as required for public sector projects
- Experience with, or a strong interest in, non-audit projects including financial analysis and reporting, technical accounting report writing, and consulting on accounting advice
- Superior written and oral communication skills, with the ability to ‘uncomplicate the complicated’ by expressing ideas clearly, convincingly and concisely through oral presentations and written reports to both external and internal stakeholders.
- Bilingualism is not required but considered an asset
- Effective project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing demands, without sacrificing attention to detail
