We are currently looking for a talented individual to take on the role of Heat Treatment Specialist within our team.

Job Summary

The Heat Treatment Specialist is responsible for the development with other collaborators and optimization of various manufacturing processes for planetary shafts and pump vanes, the main ones being: cold forging, machining, heat treatment, grinding.

The candidate's main responsibilities are to participate in the launch of new products, to manage cost reduction projects, as well as to advise the production, quality, and maintenance teams in the resolution of problems for heat treatment processes (furnace and induction) or that may affect the structure of the products. In addition, he will develop, implement and maintain adequate metallurgical and heat treatment procedures for the proper functioning of the plant's manufacturing production.

Description of the position

More specifically, the candidate will be required to perform the following various tasks:

  • Validate the disposition, with the quality manager, of questionable products related to the microstructure;
  • Coordinate the proper execution and participate in corporate audits related to heat treatment (IQC-9, JHT, GSD);
  • Contact person for all corporate and supplier interactions related to heat treatment;
    Validate the operating parameters of the furnaces;
  • Assist the personnel assigned to metallurgy and heat treatment, and ensure they are well trained;
  • Develop, review and implement product control plans based on failure analysis (PFMEA) to ensure that the number of non-conforming products is reduced;
  • Optimize operating parameters to ensure quality products are produced;
  • Develop, revise and implement procedures for heat treatment and structural inspection of products to obtain a uniform and metallurgically acceptable finished product and raw materials;
  • Define and participate in the attainment of targets on cost saving and production cost reduction projects for all heat treatment related products and processes;
  • Lead and facilitate multi-disciplinary teams on problem solving related to heat treatment processes or product structure using JTEKT (8-step problem solving) methods;
  • Provide service to production, quality and maintenance teams in various projects or problem solving activities;
  • Participate as a technical expert in the selection process of new equipment or the development of new processes;
  • Participate in the new product development process (APQP, QG-20).

Requested skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering/Metallurgy or other relevant ;
  • Five or more years of relevant experience;
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment;
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment;
  • Mastering of problem solving tools;
  • ISO9001 or IATF 16949 auditor an asset;
  • CQI-9 auditor an asset
  • Bilingualism French-English spoken, read and written
