What you will do:

We are seeking a highly skilled Designer who will play a critical role in design, project coordination, VAVE initiatives, and testing within our OEM equipment manufacturing division. This position is responsible for leading testing initiatives to evaluate and validate design solutions for our HVAC units. The ideal candidate will possess technical experience in engineering, engineering technology, or electrical work. This role involves running tests, reporting results to the Project Engineer, updating drawings and documents, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance product performance and manufacturability.

THIS IS A TERM ROLE THAT WILL FOCUS ON A 2 YEAR PROJECT ENDING SEPTEMBER 2027

How you will do it:

Demonstrating your extensive knowledge of engineering principles, you will design, develop, optimize and test mechanical components, and equipment of our AHU (air handling units) and MDC (modular data center products).

  • Technical Design:

    • Review, design and optimization of equipment in accordance with industry standards, codes, and client specifications.

    • Utilize engineering analysis tools and methodologies to gather data, evaluate performance metrics, and support decision-making processes.

    • Experience with product optimization testing.

    • Able to read and interpret construction drawings, electrical schematics, and unit operation manuals.

  • Documentation:

    • Review and preparation of professional work products including design submittals, reports, drawings, and Engineering Change Requests.

    • Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for design processes and VAVE initiatives to ensure consistency and quality in engineering practices.

    • Accurately fill out testing reports for each unit, documenting results and observations clearly and thoroughly for internal and external stakeholders.

    • Update and maintain engineering drawings, documents, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to testing and design processes.

  • Testing and Optimization:

    • Work closely with the Project Engineer to develop test specifications for products and assemblies in accordance with company guidelines, industry standards, codes, and client specifications.

    • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying best practices and implementing innovative design solutions.

    • Lead testing activities on the shop floor to evaluate HVAC unit designs, ensuring they meet company standards and performance metrics.

  • Project Coordination:

    • Support Project Engineer with Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives from conception through execution, participating actively in cross-functional meetings to support project timelines and objectives.

    • Take a critical role in project execution and engage in multiple aspects of the business including support for estimating, business development and sales, R&D innovation, production improvements, procurement, marketing, and service.

    • Work closely with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain to identify opportunities for cost reduction and performance enhancement.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent technical experience as an electrician or in a similar role.

  • 7+ years experience

  • Strong understanding of VAVE principles and methodologies.

  • Basic understanding of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), binary input/outputs and analogue inputs/outputs.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deliverables simultaneously, meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • An ideal candidate possesses a working knowledge of electrical test meters, tools and related equipment. Ability to apply basic mechanical skills and understanding of PLCs, electrical schematics, and HVAC unit operations during testing and troubleshooting.

  • Valid first aid.

  • Able to safely start, operate and perform unit running functions and shut down.

  • Ability to recognize and mitigate hazards that arise while the HVAC unit is in operational conditions and respond effectively.

  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and present findings to stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials.

  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to data center equipment is a plus.
