Position Summary
Interior Health is seeking an experienced and dynamic Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) to join our Mental Health & Substance Use (MHSU) team in beautiful Ashcroft, B.C.

About the Job:
The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse:
• Functions as a member of the larger Hospitals & Communities Integrated Services (HCIS) or Tertiary Mental Health Services multi-disciplinary care team
• Ensures that persons with serious severe and persistent mental health problems, and/or problematic substance use and/or development disability issues who may or may not be in crisis have access to timely, responsive, evidence based treatment and clinical supports across the continuum of available services
• Provides assessment, treatment, case management, community support, and as required, urgent response to clients who may also have serious functional impairment in the domains of physical health and personal, family, financial, occupational, and social life
• Functions as a primary clinician utilizing a variety of specialized treatment modalities/therapies for individuals, groups of clients and/or their families

In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, the Rural and Remote Mental Health and Substance Use Nurse works as an integral part of an integrated mental health and substance use service. The Nurse provides urgent outreach, responsive assessment and treatment, case management, GP shared care, education, and support to individuals experiencing acute and/or chronic mental illness and/or problem substance use.

This is a CASUAL OPPORTUNITY. Casual means hours are not guaranteed and may vary and shifts may be at short notice. Casual employees are eligible to apply for internal postings including permanent and temporary positions. There are many opportunities with Interior Health that begin with casual employment and lead to regular employment.

Effective April 1, 2024, the hourly wage will be $41.42 - $55.91 per hour.

Shifts of work are days with shift times of 08:30 to 16:30.

About this location/unit:

Ashcroft and Cache Creek are small communities with one of the best climates in BC, having mild winters, and warm summers, with little precipitation. The mountains are only a few miles away. Skiing, hiking, fishing, swimming, and biking opportunities are within easy drives. While the health site is located in and named after the Ashcroft community (population 1,800), the Village of Cache Creek (population 1,200) is 10 km away. The site provides service to both communities and the surrounding area, a total population of approximately 7,000.
There are 25 residential beds, x-ray and lab services, home care nursing, home support, mental health and public health at the site. Patients needing higher levels of care are transferred to Kamloops. The city of Kamloops (about an hour's drive) and Vancouver (three and a half hours away) provides urban opportunities. Close enough to enjoy far enough away not to impact our life style. Without a single traffic light both communities offer have a relaxed living experience.

Qualfications
• Graduation from an approved school of nursing
• Two (2) years’ recent related experience in a mental health and substance use environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
• Current valid B.C. driver’s license
