Position Summary
We are currently seeking a permanent full time Psychiatric Aide to join our team at the South Hills Tertiary Psychiatric Rehabilitation Centre in Kamloops, B.C.

We’re looking for a compassionate, dependable, and emotionally intelligent individual who is genuinely committed to supporting people through some of their most vulnerable moments. The ideal candidate brings a calm, patient presence and is comfortable providing hands-on personal care while building respectful, therapeutic relationships with patients.
The successful candidate is a strong team player who communicates clearly, follows established procedures, and can adapt to a dynamic environment where no two days are the same. This role requires someone observant and attentive to detail, who can recognize changes in patient behaviour or well-being and respond appropriately. We are looking for someone who is confident in maintaining a safe and supportive environment, including the ability to handle challenging situations using non-violent crisis intervention techniques.

What Will You Work On?
The Psychiatric Aide performs a variety of duties in the personal care and emotional support of patients. These duties are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, standards and philosophies of Hillside Interior Acute Psychiatric Centre; Tertiary Mental Health and Addictions Services, and Interior Health.
About this unit
South Hills Tertiary Psychiatric Rehabilitation consists of two - 20 bed units specifically designed for the treatment of adults with serious and persistent symptoms of mental illness. This program is focused on rehabilitation and recovery with the goal of preparing individuals for community reintegration. Admission is by physician referral only. In most cases individuals will be transferred from hospital to hospital using Patient Transport or ambulance services.
The programs within the tertiary umbrella of services are provided within the service delivery framework of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery. Rehabilitation combines empowering principles with practical strategies in facilitating recovery for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness. The goal is to improve the quality of life for individuals by assisting them to assume responsibility over their lives and to function as actively and independently in society as possible. The programs are designed to both strengthen the individual’s skills and to develop the environmental supports necessary to sustain the individual in the community.
Scheduling Information:
Shift times are from 08:00 to 20:00, 20:00 to 08:00 hours and shift types are days, evenings and nights.

Qualfications
Education, Training and Experience:
• Grade 12
• Resident Care Attendant Certificate
• One-year recent related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Current First Aid, CPR, and Food Safe Certificates
• A valid BC driver’s license (Class 5)
• BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker registry (please include your registration number)
