Nurse Practitioner

Position Summary
Interior Health is looking for a permanent part-time Nurse Practitioner to join our team in Cranbrook, B.C.

Located in downtown Cranbrook at 32 9th Avenue South, the newly opened Ktunaxa Nation Health Centre provides health and wellness services for Ktunaxa members, their families and other Indigenous peoples who are living in Ktunaxa ʔamakʔis (Ktunaxa traditional territory).

Guided by a “circle of care” model, the centre brings together a diverse team of health professionals to support clients’ physical, mental, and emotional well-being. This team includes Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Outreach Licensed Practical Nurses, Foot Care Nurse, Counsellors, Mental Health and Addictions Support Workers, Social Workers, and a Physiotherapist. Clients also benefit from access to visiting specialists, including an Internal Medicine Physician and a Psychiatrist.

In addition to services at the centre, health professionals provide outreach to East Kootenay communities, helping individuals and families navigate the health system and connect with the supports they need.

The Ktunaxa Regional Health Centre was made possible through the support of many partners, including the First Nations Health Authority, Interior Health, East Kootenay Primary Care Network, Indigenous Services Canada, Elk Valley Resources (formerly Teck Coal), Canfor, and other community collaborators.

Position Details:

• Schedule: Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday - 08:30 to 17:00
• FTE: 0.62.
• Location: Cranbrook B.C.

Salary range for the position is $74.74/hour - $82.21/hour. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant.

What you will work on:

• Diagnoses and treats previously undiagnosed patients/clients/residents for undifferentiated diseases, disorders, and conditions within the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice; writes orders for treatment and medications; and provides first-line care in emergencies.

• Monitors ongoing care, orders appropriate screening diagnostic investigations, interprets reports of investigations, and analyzes information to monitor progress and plan treatment.

• Establishes priorities for management of health, diseases, disorders, and conditions; provides follow-up treatment; communicates with patients/clients/residents and families about health findings, diagnoses, priorities, outcomes, and prognoses; supports and counsels patients/clients/residents in their responses to diseases, disorders, and conditions.

• Collaborates and consults with physicians or other healthcare and social service providers as appropriate to assess and diagnose patient/client/resident status. Develops and implements treatment plans. May admit and discharge patients/clients/residents to facilities according to organizational policies.

• Prescribes drugs within the statutory and regulatory standards, limits, and conditions for Nurse Practitioners and within applicable employer policies and procedures.

• Assigns work to other nursing and healthcare personnel, evaluates work, provides education and supervision as necessary, hires staff, and evaluates staff performance.

• Participates in research contributing to improved patient/client/resident care and advances in nursing, health policy development, and population health.

• Maintains population health focus by implementing screening and health promotion activities for populations at risk.

• Participates in interdisciplinary staff and nursing education through case presentations; mentoring; role modeling; and facilitating the exchange of knowledge in the classroom, the clinical setting, and the community. Fosters healthcare partnerships.

• Develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures related to nursing, interdisciplinary care, and health system practices.

• Acts as most responsible provider and provides outreach to palliative, hospice, and long-term care when required.

• In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, maintain a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations, and implementing required corrective actions.

• Performs other related duties as required.

Qualfications
Education, Training, and Experience
• Current registration and exam-qualified as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• Knowledge of First Nations culture and experience working with Aboriginal People is preferred - Cultural Competency training would be an asset
• Knowledge and specialized training in mental health, gender-affirming care, substance use, and addiction medicine would be considered an asset
• Recent, relevant clinical nursing experience
• Recent, relevant clinical nursing experience.
