Position Summary
Who are we looking for?

Interior Health is seeking a dynamic Manager, Plant Services to lead a team of 4 direct reports in the beautiful Thompson Cariboo Shuswap region. This role involves overseeing the development, operation, and maintenance of facilities and equipment, while ensuring cost-effective, high-quality service delivery. You’ll be responsible for managing the operating budget, developing policies, and collaborating with Capital Projects teams to drive successful construction initiatives.

*The worksite for this role is on-site at an IH facility in the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap region.

Salary range for the position is $106,026 to $152,413. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees

How will you make an impact?

The Manager, Plant Services is responsible for the overall development, operation, and direction of Plant Services in the assigned region. The Manager oversees the operation and maintenance of facilities and associated equipment, including recommending, developing, and maintaining policies and procedures. The Manager is also responsible for providing quality services in a timely, cost-effective manner by planning; directing; coordinating; recruiting; and providing management, leadership, and supervision of Plant Services staff and projects. The Manager oversees the operating budget for Plant Services in the assigned area and works closely with Capital Projects teams on construction projects.

What will you work on?

• Provides decisions, direction, communication, and support to staff through policy development, procedures, meetings, and reviews.

• Manages staff including recruiting, hiring, evaluating performance, disciplining, and terminating staff as required to meet department objectives. Leads the development of educational plans, in-service training, and mentorship to support employee development.

• Develops and monitors the operating budget for Plant Services in the assigned region. Plans and adjusts budget to meet projections and annual targets, approves expenditures, and reports on variances.

• Determines priorities for Capital Improvement Projects and Maintenance Improvement Projects within the region and develops a long-term capital plan for this area.

• Identifies opportunities for cost savings within the region through energy management projects.

• Oversees the development and continuous improvement of policies, procedures, and programs in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, and standards; ensures compliance by employees and external service providers; collaborates with and provides technical and logistical support to the Planning and Capital Projects teams.

• Ensures that facilities are maintained consistent with best practices regarding energy conservation, carbon footprint reduction, LEED certification and other relevant environmental standards.

• Provides support in specific areas such as infrastructure, technical standards, systems commissioning, contract management, and safety or integrity management, as assigned by the Director.

• Works with WH&S, WorkSafe BC, and the BC Safety Authority to ensure code compliance and standards are being met.

• In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, maintain a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations and implementing required corrective actions.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualfications
Education, Training, and Experience
• Must possess either a first or second class power engineer’s certificate; a degree in engineering; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Five to seven years of recent, related experience preferably in healthcare or a similar organization.

Skills and Abilities
• Must have a thorough knowledge of building systems, plant operations, maintenance, and construction practices.
• Demonstrated ability to apply health, labor regulations, and professional and legal standards in establishing departmental policies.
• Demonstrated ability to develop strategies and controls and to adjust to changing requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to apply current professional knowledge to ensure the standards, goals, and objectives of the department are achieved.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze problems and implement and/or recommend solutions.
• Proven supervisory ability.
• Strong computer skills, including word, excel and power point. Knowledge of and ability to work with AutoCAD would be an asset.
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.
• Ability to organize work and set priorities.
• A Class 5 BC Driver’s license.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
